Mission:
A Princess Of Tial
Location: Kally's Quarters
Kally had a pot of coffee on a warming plate on her coffee table, mugs set up and a few plates of savory pirozhki piled high with napkins for people to munch on. She'd found food was the second-best way to convince someone to listen to what she had to say. She'd been working on how she wanted to present this for the past couple weeks, and now she was ready to keep her promise. All she needed was her guests.
As the first chime sounded, she looked up. "Enter," she said.
Mark entered Kally's quarters, curious as to what this mysterious announcement was from the CMO. Knowing how things tended to go around here, it definitely wouldn't be ordinary, especially if Dr. Kellerman wanted it to occur in her quarters versus some other more "official" location like the observation lounge. "Doctor," he said to her with a nod. "Good to see you again."
Kally smiled. "Good to see you too, Mark," she said. "Please, have a seat and help yourself to something to eat.
Alex and Raven arrived before the door could fully close, so it opened automatically for them. He didn’t know what this was about, and of everyone who could ask him for favours she was the one he was least willing to entertain…but he owed it to her to hear her out. Besides, there was food. “Doctor,” he said politely, if distantly.
"Commander, Lieutenant," she said, smiling at Alex and Raven. "Please, have a seat." She gestured to the various chairs around the room and poured coffee for them and Mark.
"Hi ya, Doc!" Raven chirped. Raven was curious as what was going on, but she was always willing to hang out with people to get to know them.
Kally smiled, handing her a mug. "Hey Raven. Help yourself to food and get comfortable. We've got a couple more people to go, then we'll get started.
"Thanks. That sounds good to me!" Raven accepted the mug, taking a few sips, giving a satisfied sigh at the taste.
The door chimed again just as Kally finished speaking. At her ‘Enter,’ call, the door swished open to admit both Rala and her passenger. The Draakri was wearing a tank-top-style athletic dress, pink at its top and fading to white at the hem, which fell to mid-thigh; and nestled in her generous cleavage was the ship’s diminutive Science Officer.
The fit was a little tighter than Rebecca was used to, and the phrase 'tighter than she was used to' began to imply that she was developing a standard for how tight of a fit she was among the various top shelfs of her shipmates, but such was the life she lived now. It was a set of experiences that only she would need to account for. Timing her breathing for when her larger partner had breathed out, finding that right spot to not get squeezed too tight when they breathed in, careful not to squirm too much getting adjusted to avoid exciting her partner..... all sorts of safeguards. "Hey everyone." She waved.
Kally waved back to Rebecca, and Rala while Rala found a comfortable place to sit.
Last, but by no means least, JJ came in, looking somewhat relieved. "Sorry if I'm late, took a left instead of a right, and wound up in a storage cupboard."
"Those would be Henry's quarters," Kally quipped, handing some food and drink to JJ.
When everyone was settled with a cup and/or a plate, Kally sat down as well in a chair, facing them. "Thank you all for coming," she said. "As you know, after we left Tial, Tessa decided to join us, and the Captain has authorized it. While she's been spending most of her on duty time working in Sickbay and studying Federation medical practices, she has expressed interest in expanding her knowledge. It's occurred to her, and to me, that she has far less understanding of this ship than any other crewman, and if she's going to live here full time, she needs a working knowledge of not just our technology, but our procedures and our protocols. I'm sure some of you are thinking that she could just apply for Starfleet Academy, and you're right, and I would sponsor her in a heartbeat. However, that would take her away from us, which would largely defeat the reason she's here in the first place." No point calling Henry out in public, Kally thought.
"So, I am proposing that we, the senior officers, put her through a light academy training. Something that will elevate her to having a functional knowledge of the ship and make her a more well-rounded crew member." She looked at each of them. "I need another orderly who could fly a shuttle in a medical emergency," she said to Raven. "I need one who understands our technology enough to know how a plasma coolant leak can happen, not just what it does to the body," she said to Jeanine. "And I need one who knows how our culture and command structure works beyond just the fact that she's the bottom rung of the ladder," she said to Espersen.
Raven nodded, already running scenarios through her head that would give Tessa lots of practice and safe, practical uses for other areas in her life as well.
"Mark, you'll love her hand-to-hand skills, but she needs more training on our style of fighting rather than her structured style. She also needs to learn to use our weapons. Rebecca, she's got a mind for science, but could use a few updates on some of our more advanced discoveries. Rala? I'd love to have someone on hand who could work the medical transporter and understand how power routing in Sickbay works." She looked at the group as she took a pirozhki in a napkin. "What do you think?" she said, taking a bite and opening up the discussion to the floor.
A moment of hesitation on the First Officer's part evaporated almost immediately. The former Academy instructor in him pushed aside any and all Kellerman-related preconceived notions. The doctor had an excellent idea which directly helped both the young Tessa and the crew overall. "I like it," he said.
“So do I,” Rala said. “I’m going to need to brush up on the differences between standard and medical transporters myself first, but count me in.”
"This could be an interesting experiment, for lack of a better term," Mark said. "I know we've been talking about having cross-training for interested crewmembers due to the limited number of crew we tend to get assigned, and this would give us the opportunity to have a trial run so that we could work out any kinks in the system."
"I'm pretty good at programming Holodeck simulations. I could help generate any training simulations for the course." Rebecca piped up from Rala's chest.
"Fantastic," Kally said, excitedly. "I've no doubt we'll be utilizing holodeck programs for a lot of this, since we don't have academy resources."
Raven started making notes on her PADD.
JJ's mind turned inward for a moment. "I could do with running a shift through some simulated emergencies. Would be good to have an outside perspective—and Tessa can learn why we do things the way we do."
"That would help her integrate during an emergency," Kally said, nodding. "And another person with engineering knowledge in Sickbay would help reduce the need for calling you."
“Ops touches on basically everything in some way or another,” Rala said. “If any of you need anything for this, let me know.”
"I'll need to balance her shifts with your availability," Kally said. "So loop me into your duty rosters, and let me know when would be good times to schedule her for training. I'll put together a schedule that spreads things out enough that this won't dominate our days, but keep her with a full schedule. Any questions about this?"
"Here ya go, Kally." Raven smiled as she swiped her PADD and sent the duty roster to Kally's PADD.
"Fantastic, thank you," Kally said, smiling.
Raven started mentally calculating where she personally needed to be to give the most attention to both Tessa and her own crew.
"Here's security's," Mark said, sending along the info to Kally's PADD.
"And let me know if there are issues aligning among the departments," Alex added.
“I’m still getting myself sorted out now that T’Pinga’s gone,” Rala piped up. “I’ll try to get things nailed down and get you looped in as soon as I can.”
"Wonderful," Kally said, happy the plan was starting to form. "All right, when the rest of you can get me your schedule times, I'll work it around her time in Sickbay. She's going to be thrilled." She looked around the room, grinning excitedly. "Thank you all again for coming and volunteering your time. It's much appreciated."
Rebecca smiled, giving the purple skin around her a gentle pat pat, "Always happy to help."
"Always! Can't wait to see her, and the rest of the crew, blossom even more." Raven grinned, cracking her neck and shoulders.
