Mission:
Lower Decks
Location: Unnamed Class O Planet
Nearly twelve hours after arriving in orbit, the last of the Chimera crew beamed back to their ship. Everyone who wanted it had gotten at least a few hours planetside. Crewmembers came back feeling better than ever, cooled by the salty sea and warmed by the sun and sand, and energized by whatever shenanigans they got up to. And a particular Captain got a sunburn for the ages.
Everyone had been respectful of the planet, collecting any trace that they had been there, except one small plaque, left at the beam-down site to commemorate their visit, which read:
“On Stardate 72504.7, this world was visited by the crew of the Federation starship Chimera NCC-80118. We came in peace, we had fun in the sun, and we left enriched for the experience.”
Below it were the handprints of everyone who came down, young and old, human and not, who got to experience this paradise for the small window of time in which they were there. Perhaps one day the plaque would be seen by another crew, of another starship passing through, who may hopefully enjoy the planet as they did.
They would remember this brief diversion fondly. For her part, Raven smiled at the memories made planet-side...and winced at the small spots of sunburn she'd declined treatment for as a reminder to be more cautious next time.
Rebecca smiled at the memories as well. A good bit of relaxation helped release the tension and stress of the job. She giggled at the memory of putting her own tiny little handprints on the plaque, and the looming threat of being the only full-body imprint on the plaque. She smiled, shaking her head. Being in everyone's shadow just meant no sunburn for her. Win win.
A short time later, the USS Chimera was back on course, a little more than five days from Tial, her crew rested and energized for the upcoming mission.
