The Time To Get Outta Dodge

Posted on Sat Sep 25th, 2021 @ 11:01pm by Captain Calypso Skyie & Lieutenant Commander Tyler Driskill & Lieutenant Mark Valleroy & Lieutenant JG Faith Vianelli & Ensign Danielle Michelson & Ensign Rene Rouen & Master Chief Petty Officer Samuel Ross

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: The Boneyard, Chimera's Bridge

Calypso and Tyler left their the ready room and emerged on the bridge to see every station manned for the very first time. Cally even stopped suddenly to look at the beautiful sight, a slight smile gracing her face to see everyone in place. She wanted to take a picture of it, even if just with her memory.

Tyler gave Valerie a nod, letting her know she was going to do just fine. His smiled matched Cally's as he looked over at her, he was more then ready to get things underway.

Rene was at the Tactical Two station monitoring the operational status of all the department systems. While primary control of those systems was handled at the Tactical One console, it was customary for launch that all bridge stations be manned until the normal underway watch was set.

Master Chief Gunner's Mate Ross toured around the bridge stations ensuring the officers and enlisted were performing to standard. His hand came up to the ear wig as he listened. He turned to Calypso. "Captain in port watch has been secured, the departure watch is fully manned and ready throughout the ship."

Faith sat nervously in the third center chair, edged to one side, almost as if she were trying to make herself as invisible as possible. She felt like an imposter. A child dressed up in Daddy's uniform playing make believe. She wasn't an officer. She was just a cadet and cadets had no place on the bridge, let alone sitting in the center chairs. The provisional pips on her collar felt like they burned and she reached up, instinctively rubbing her fingertips across the skin beneath the fabric before glancing around the bridge.

Finally, Cally was back on the move, stopping by the helm and leaning over, "All right Danielle, I liked your path, but I just added a couple of loops around a couple sets of ships, call it testing our maneuverability."

"Aye" Danielle said with a smile and started putting in the changes that the Captain gave her.

Cally patted her on the shoulder then quickly made it to her center seat, a dog bed installed to the right, between her and Tyler, a beagle poking her head out over the edge of it. Her shuttle recovery teams were in place in the transporter rooms, ready to go. "Open a channel to the Boneyard Ops Center." She asked out loud.

"Channel open ma'am" Valerie replied with her best official tone.

"Boneyard Center, this is USS Chimera, Commander Skyie commanding. Requesting permission to depart on our filed flight plan, with a firing run on Target Forty-Two, requesting full spectrum run."

There was a moment of silence, then an absolutely bored voice came back, "Chimera, your request to depart is granted, flight plan is approved. Please don't run into any other ships and target only Forty-Two."

"Thank you Center, Chimera clear." She waited until the link had been cut, then glanced over at Faith, then Tyler, then back towards the rest of them that were facing forward and finally back forward, "Danielle, take us out. Valerie, prepare to execute Operation Flyby. Instruct the transporter rooms to stand ready for Operation Shuttlefly."

Valerie turned and gave a nod. She sent a quick message to the transporter rooms as ordered. "Transporter room one and two ready on your mark Captain."

Ensign Michelson had a huge smile on her face "Yes ma'am" she punched in a command on her console and the ship slowly but surely went to one quarter impulse.

It would be about a half hour of a trip to the firing range, the course painstakingly precise. In an hour at most, they'd likely be at warp and able to relax a bit. Calypso rested her arms on the armrests, just listening to everything tick over. "Transporter room One, send out the Andreovich team." A couple minutes later, "Transporter room Two, send out the Hera team."

So far, it was all going to plan, reports ticking in from the transporters on the supplies and such that they had tagged in the previous day as they passed various ships. The 'shopping list' that Cally had thrown up on the main screen began flicking from the yellow of 'In progress' to the green of 'acquired' as each line was fulfilled. Even the shuttles turned from the yellow to green as three new shuttles entered the shuttlebays.

A short time later, Mark walked onto the bridge and gave a short nod to the captain. "Mission accomplished, Ma'am," he said to her.

"Excellent, Mark!" Cally smiled at him as he took his position at the primary tactical station. It was only when the the yellow of the engineering supplies from the Bengel went from yellow to red that the first hiccup happened. "Miss Sheldon?" Calypso asked.

"Sensors indicated someone on the bridge, ma'am." The Operations officer commented, "It auto-aborted the transport process."

"Damn..." Cally muttered softly, "Add that to the wish list from the Starbase then. Engineering will just have to make do."

Cally thought about it and made a decision that was admittedly kindof greedy, but it was Captain's prerogative. "Danielle, can I have you go check on the shuttles real quick? Make sure we won't need to make another pass through the Yard to find some more? I'll take the helm from here."

As the helm officer left the bridge, Calypso grinned and transferred control to her chair as the main screen turned to the target asteroid and she glanced back to Rene, "Mister Rouen? You're up."

Rene moved from the Tactical Two station to the Tactical One. "Pardon me Lieutenant. Captain Skyie assigned me special permission to handle the phasers for the gunnery portion of our departure."

"Of course, Ensign," Mark said, stepping back from the station while gesturing to it. "Knock yourself out."

Rene initiated the firing sequence, multiple phasers began etching out what looked like a fist until the middle finger sticking up was complete. He finished the asteroid etching by placing a Dear T above the image and signed below Misfits. "I hope that meets with the Captain's approval?"

Cally nodded, but something was missing… “Taking us hard port. Figure eight around the target, out wide on the bottom of the snowman.” She snapped suddenly, bringing up a hologram in front of her and scrawling an image freehand onto it.

Cally smiled and after a finishing touch sent it to Tactical One for Rene, half-turning, “Can you do it in time, or do we need yet another pass?”

Rene had an 'Are you kidding me' expression. His hands danced around the Tactical One console as he input new target protocols before nodding at Cally.

“Re-engage the target.” Calypso chuckled, taking the ship into a barrel roll that brought them back in on the asteroid.

Rene fired all the forward phaser arrays and added the last of the finishing touches as they turned with less than a half ship's length from the asteroid.

Sam simply face palmed and rubbed his eyes. 'This assignment is going to be the death of me', he thought.

The new etching was right underneath the misfits signature, a heart with an arrow through it, made up of an arrow stylized using the name ‘Skyie’ in cursive before the arrowhead. The main screen captured it perfectly and Calypso tapped a key to get a screenshot of it before it began to recede from view, “Valerie, send a message to the Boneyard station with our thanks."

The Ops officer nodded and sent a signal to the station, "Compliments sent, ma'am."

"Setting course for Starbase 614, let’s get there in style, ladies and gentlemen!” She tapped a button that initiated the shipwide comm, "All hands, we're officially on our way to Starbase 6-1-4, Let's get the ship all spiffy, then let's try to relax and be ready for whatever comes at us. Skyie clear."
