Mission:
Lower Decks
Location: Jenna's Quarters
Katie marched down the corridor, dragging a container behind her. "Okay, remember: there's going to be resistance, but this is for her own good. Stay on target. Don't let her get in your head."
"No risk of that," Sakura said. She nodded. It was time.
They stopped in front of their target's doors and Katie rang the chime. "Okay...game face on."
"One minute." The answer came from within, sounding more like a sigh and true to her word, it was actually about forty seconds before the door slid open and Jenna stood in the doorway in a bedroom robe, finalizing the sash's tying as she saw Katie and Sakura.
"Surprise!" Katie said, grinning. "We've missed you and so we thought we'd come drop in! We've brought dinner and a board game!"
"Um..." Jenna paused, the look on her face rather indecisive, but grimaced slightly, "Ah wasn't expecting anyone to drop by today, so Ah was just relaxing a little bit before replicating something and getting an early night's sleep."
Katie glanced at Sakura. "Well...now you don't need to replicate something!" she said, putting her smile back on, then looking slightly pleading. "We haven't seen you in what feels like ages, and you can't spend all your time alone in the shuttlebay or your quarters. C'mon. Spend some time with your friends."
"You need contact with sentients," Sakura added.
"And we're close enough," Katie said, grinning.
"Yeah, okay, come on in." Jenna agreed, not with a small bit of apprehension, vacating the doorway for them to come in, meanwhile wrapping the robe around her a little bit tighter, trying to put on a more welcoming style, "Ah do apologize, Ah haven't done much in the way of cleanin' over the last few days, so it's a bit of a mess in here." She hustled ahead of them by a couple steps, snagging a few bits of clothing she'd discarded earlier in the evening, lacey and filmy, trying to keep her body between them.
Katie raised an eyebrow at the clothing. "Well, if you've ever seen my quarters, I can tell you, this is nothing," she said. "And Kally's quarters can get rather messy, as others can confirm," she added, sharing a glance with Sakura.
"It's true," Sakura agreed. "Mine and Fulvia's isn't much better."
Katie pulled her rolling stack of containers in with them and put them in a corner, pulling out the container with the dinner she'd brought. "So I thought we could munch on some...." she stopped and looked at Jenna as her robe shifted, another piece of lace showing underneath. "Jenna....are you wearing...." Her eyes got wide with shock. "Did you have a date tonight?"
"N-No!" Jenna stammered as her face went red and glanced down, tugging the robe back over herself to cover her fully once more, "Ah-Ah was just tryin' on a couplea things, you know, just in case..." She glanced between Sakura and Katie rapidly, "In case Ah get the chance to go out with someone?"
"You have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about," Sakura said. "You look amazing. And you don't need to wear it for anyone else. It's fun to wear them just for you. And kind of empowering. Like 'I'm being sexy, and I know it, even if you don't'."
"Ah, Ah, Ah.." She remained a full red even as she tried and failed miserably to come up with something to say about what she was wearing, but it was far too late to hide it and these two were her friends, they were people she could actually confide in when it came down to it. She looked down at the floor to compose herself, then slowly undid the sash on the robe, revealing the lacy white bra and underwear that looked more like boy shorts than the typical, "Ah've got a pair of thigh-highs that match this too..." She said in a quiet voice.
“You look fantastic,” Sakura said, eyes wide, smiling widely. “WHERE ARE THE THIGH-HIGHS?”
"Seconded on both counts!" Katie said, excitedly. "And where was all this during our get-together?"
The blush extended itself down to Jenna's upper chest and she wriggled her toes in self-acknowledgement, then sheepishly reached into a pocket and pulled out the asked-for stockings, "Ah'm um... Guessin' you want to see the whole look?"
"Of course!" Katie said, grinning. "How else can we continue to tell you how amazing it looks on you?"
Sakura’s squeal of delight underlaid what Katie said.
Slowly, Jenna was very self aware at this point, she shrugged off the robe and tossed it onto the arm of the couch and one leg at a time slipped on the lacy thigh high stockings and took a step back, "One sec," She said, remembering the other aspect she'd left in her room, "Ah'll be back in just one second." She vanished into her bedroom and came out a few moments later in the pale silver high heels she'd accessorized for this outfit, "This is the whole outfit," she announced.
Katie gave a loud, appreciative whistle. "Okay by unanimous vote," she said, speaking for both of them, "you are never to subject yourself to flannel ever again." She gave Jenna a warm smile. "You look stunning. You shouldn't be ashamed of that."
“Seriously,” Sakura added. “No question. I wish I could wear that as well. Not to say I don’t plan to try, where did you get this outfit?”
"Bradley would love that," Katie said.
“Fulvia would too,” Sakura added cheekily.
"Bet Jadizon would like me finding a set like it too," Katie looked it over. "Is it replicated? Or from Earth?"
"Ah replicated it, but Ah've got this design in my personal files. Minerva always said Ah needed to have somethin' like this in my arsenal for when Ah do go on a date or somethin'." She traced the fleur-de-lis on the sides of bra and panties, "Since she knew Ah enjoyed the French touch. She was really the one who was good with fashion, especially when we were younger and Ah've got a lot of things in my files for when it comes to options." She glanced Sakura up and down, measuring her with her eyes, "Ah think Ah could replicate somethin' like this for you if you'd like, but in a crimson instead of white, would go better with your hair, or maybe a gold instead? Ah did grow up with a decent sense of fashion myself."
“I like the crimson idea,” Sakura said, nodding.
Jenna's eyes turned to Katie, "For you it would be a bit different... Lavender for sure.. Ah know a dark green goes well with me as well, but this really contrasts well." Her voice was more confident now, the blush having left her face mostly already, "But Ah will not go out in public, or even to a sleepover, in this! It would be too much, give people the wrong impression of me!"
"Except we already have an impression of you, and it wasn't nearly as hot," Katie said, hands on her hips. She walked over and hugged Jeanna tightly. "We already know you, Jenna. We're your friends. You can be relaxed around us." She got a sly smile. "And maybe some Gentleman Caller?" she gave Jenna a searching look for any clues.
Protocol demanded that Jenna hug back, not that she would have denied it anyways, "Ah don't have anyone that's interested in me like that, so far as Ah know." Her face went red again, a sure sign, "Yet, at least. But um..."
"Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut," Katie wheedled, her voice rising in pitch as she got more excited.
Jenna slipped out of the heels and back onto flat ground before kicking them to the side, "Well, there is one guy that Ah've got an eye on a little bit, maybe, but he ain't interested in me that Ah can tell." She shook her head slightly, "Not that Ah blame him, Ah mean, Ah've been focused on work so much and that ain't really somethin' that's attractive to most guys--"
Katie's hand came up so fast it almost pulled off a Picard Maneuver appearing in two places at once, connecting sharply and briefly with the back of Jenna's head, just enough to get her attention and chastise her. "Jenna," she said, her voice now devoid of playfulness, "I don't like people talking bad about my friends, even if it's my friends. You're gorgeous, you're smart, you're funny, you're kind. Just because you have your head up a Jefferies tube, or, apparently, your own ass, doesn't mean guys haven't noticed you or aren't interested in you!"
She walked over to Sakura and folded her arms, scowling. "Back me up here," she muttered, nudging Sakura with her elbow.
"Five separate men and three women other than those in your acquaintance have told me you're hot," Sakura affirmed.
Jenna looked between the two fellow engineers, then scoffed lightly, "All right, you tell me who has their eyes on me, then?" She arched an eyebrow lightly. "And you can't say Rene Rouen anymore, because he doesn't count."
"I would never mention him," Katie said, her voice both confident and defiant, "because I have no idea who he is." She paused as Sakura whispered quickly in her ear. "I would never mention him, because I know who he is," she declared just as confidently. "And Kally's mentioned how attractive you are, and I've seen Kozlowski steal a glance or two in team meetings. 'Course, half the ship could be sneaking glances at you, but you ignore it; so, how would you even notice?" She put her hands back on her hips and cocked her head accusingly.
“Kozlowski was just payin’ attention durin’ those team meetin’s,” Jenna argued, seeing it from the point of view of the senior officer of the time.
"Yeah, cause that sounds like Peter," Katie said under her breath to Sakura.
“And Ah do not ignore people, Ah need to-“ She cut herself off as she realized she was once again speaking like she was actually in charge of anything anymore, face falling for a moment, “Maybe Ah wasn’t lookin’ at the right things.” She mumbled.
"Yeah, 'maybe'," Katie said, making quotation fingers. "Maybe you've been spending so much time convincing yourself of something, you forgot there are other possibilities out there. Maybe it's time to be open to love and fun and risk and friends and all that messy stuff and just...relax." She shrugged and gave Jenna a loving smile.
"Or maybe Ah was just focused on bein' heartbroken." Jenna admitted truthfully, "And threw myself into my work to get away from the consequences of said heartbreak. Which then spiraled away and we know where that went off to. Ah know Ah haven't been in Engineerin' much since Ah started back on duty again, but truthfully, the shuttle bay is nice and quiet when it needs to be and Qui-" She cut herself off, but tried to make it smooth, "The shuttlebay manager has made sure that Ah've been useful gettin' the shuttles back into tip-top shape."
"Oh, I know him!" Sakura said gleefully. She playfully punched Katie on the shoulder. "Remember him? He helped when we had to replace and reprogram the shuttle comms systems two weeks ago. Handsome as hell. Kinder than he probably needed to be." She looked at Jenna and nodded. "He seems like a good one."
"Who? The Ghost?" Katie said. "Yeah, he's definitely handsome. Quiet, though. Was polite when he spoke, but barely said a dozen words to us. Lucky for him I could keep up the chatter for all three of us." She saw the smirk on Jenna's face. "Waiiiiiiit a second...." she said, slowly. "Is that who this is for? You and the ghost are....?"
“Petty Officer Sullivan and Ah are just co-workers who have a current work location in common,” Jenna snapped moodily, “And he and Ah are total opposites! He’s so quiet that you couldn’t tell whether or not he’s interested in the conversation or not, but...” She put her hands in her hips and spun on Sakura, “Just who do YOU know that thinks ‘Ah’m hot? Names!”
“Katie already mentioned Kozlowski,” Sakura started to answer. “Last week I was playing fuck-marry-kill with Laura Jameson and Liam O’Malley while we were working in the port nacelle, and Laura put you under ‘fuck’ while Liam debated between ‘fuck’ and ‘marry’. He was struggling because he thinks you’re hot but also that you’re the nicest person ever. Bradley checks you out when he comes to get me for lunch. Kinda openly too.”
"I've seen Jadizon glance a time or two," Katie said. "Fun to tease him about it, and then fun to have him reassure me it was just 'keeping an eye on the room.'" She snickered.
"Well, Ah hate to disappoint Laura, but my barn doors don't swing towards the ladies, but you can bet that Ah won't even think about Bradley, because he's yours." Jenna ticked those two off of, "But O'Malley?" She shook her head, "Ah'm glad no one was pickin' me for 'kill', especially with how Ah was actin' before. Ah suppose if Ah were to go on a date with someone, it may be just a way to get you all off my backs, wouldn't it?" She gave a wry smile to let them know it was meant with good humour.
"Liam's such a sweetie," Katie said, giggling. She sighed at Jenna and shook her head. "At some point you're going to have to admit that you're as human as we are, and you need to have others in your life. You don't have to go full 'harlot' mode, if for no other reason than we don't want to give Kally the satisfaction, but it wouldn't kill you to have dinner with a guy, or go have some fun on the holodeck with someone. Even if it's lowly us, your girls."
"We'll have to set up something, Katie," Jenna allowed, "To get outta my quarters besides goin' to work or gettin' some food." She gave a smile, this one without reservations for the first time in a while.
"Okay, now that we've established you're a hundred percent date material, and that our boyfriends both agree you're a looker," Katie said, "how about we sit down, eat this awesome stamppot I've been keeping warm, and play a game to relax, hm?"
Jenna stooped to pick up the robe she'd been wearing before the two had come in and slipping it back on over the lingerie, "Ah think Ah can agree with that one! It smells heavenly! And we could always watch a movie too, if we wanted. Not that Ah know what y'alls's schedule is like for tomorrow, don't wanna keep you out too late."
"Eh, up late with you, up late with our boys, whichever," Katie said. "We've got time for you."
Sakura nodded and squeezed Jenna’s shoulder.
Katie opened a large briefcase, legs extending to turn it into a tabletop. "I've been tinkering with a new project," she said, activating the holoemitters. A tropical island rose from the tabletop, a large volcano in the center, paths, lava channels and a rushing river going through the trees and bushes. "The Curse of Vul-Kar!" she said, brightly. "An island adventure dodging fireballs and collecting treasure." She cut the power and it turned back into a flat table, pulling it over and opening her other container, taking out three warm containers of mashed potato, escarole and sausage, putting it out with utensils for the three of them. "But first, dinner."
“Calories mean we make good decisions in the game!” Sakura said, grinning. “And dinner shared with friends always tastes the best.”
"Ah think that Ah can agree with that." Jenna opened the container and grabbed a fork, "Besides, company does feel kinda good."
As they all began to eat, Katie looked at Jenna and gave an evil grin. "So, Jenna? Kozlowski, Sullivan, Espersen: Fuck/Marry/Kill?"
