Mission:
Lower Decks
Location: Sickbay
Henry was finishing up his shift when he heard a groan from behind him. He turned to see an unfamiliar engineer approaching, walking stiffly. "Lieutenant? What's wrong?" Henry said, approaching.
Trey was walking very stiffly. The trek from the holodeck to Sickbay was an extremely uncomfortable one. He nodded to the nurse. "I had a fall," he said. "Landed right on my tailbone."
Henry nodded and made a note on his padd. "All right, can you get onto the biobed? I can get you treated quickly."
Trey made his way to the biobed and carefully pulled himself onto it lying on his stomach.
"Name? Henry said.
"Trey Fletcher. I'm the new Chief Engineer," Trey said, wincing as he tried to get comfortable.
Henry accessed the crew records. "Fletcher...Fletcher. Trey Fletcher, 26, Human," he said.
"That's me," Trey said.
"How did you fall?" Henry said, pulling out a tray of instruments.
Trey didn't want to admit how badly he was humiliated but he had to explain how he'd wound up injured. "I was on the holodeck," he said. "The Captain and I were going for a swim and she cut the program while I was still in the pool. I wound up landing hard."
Henry paused taking notes and looked at the other man. "You were in the holodeck with the Captain?"
"Yeah," Trey said. "I was going to introduce myself and she was swimming and one thing led to another..." he paused as a twinge in his lower back cut off his speech. "She suddenly got upset and left me there and just killed the program and walked out."
"So you're saying she knowingly ended a holodeck program in a manner that would cause this injury?" Henry said, making notes.
"She may have just acted rashly," Trey said trying to sound diplomatic. "She seemed upset." He looked behind him at the nurse typing quickly. "Look, Doc--"
"Nurse Taylor," Henry said. "Henry Taylor."
"Nurse Taylor--Henry," Trey said, "could we save the interrogation for after you've patched me up?"
Henry sighed. "Procedures exist for a reason, Henry said. "I have to make sure your information is documented correctly, and you are not in critical condition."
"Still hurts," Trey said.
Henry nodded, realizing his mistake. "I'm sorry," he said. "Lift your shirt and lower your pants please."
Trey did as instructed, wincing a bit as he tried to lift his hips to pull his pants down far enough to expose the brusing.
Henry picked up a hypospray and injected Trey's lower back immediately.
Trey immediately relaxed as the pain cleared. "Thank you," he sighed.
Henry nodded and picked up the dermal regenerator, restoring the bone and tissue around the tailbone to a healed state and removing the bruising. "You're welcome. Fortunately for you, it felt worse than it was." He made more notes on his padd, documenting everything about the session, as well as the reasons for it.
After two minutes of lying on his stomach with his butt exposed to the room, Trey looked over again. "Um...Henry? Am I good to go?"
Henry looked up from his notes and nodded. "Yes, Lieutenant. You can get dressed and return to duty. If you experience any further pain or tenderness, please come back."
Trey nodded and sat up gingerly. He dropped onto his feet and stood up straight pulling his pants back to a comfortable height tucking in his shirt and trying to look respectable. "I'll let you know if there's any more pain," he said just glad to be able to stand up straight again. He started to walk to the door.
"Lieutenant," Henry said. "Also let me know if there are any more medical issues to report. I have a feeling some things aren't getting reported.
Trey nodded. "Will do," he said.
Henry put away the instruments and sterilized the biobed before clocking out of his shift. "At least someone has an idea of regulations," he muttered to himself.
