New Engineer

Posted on Thu Aug 21st, 2025 @ 5:23am by Lieutenant Trey Fletcher & Captain Calypso Skyie

Mission: Lower Decks
Location: Trey's Quarters and Holodeck

Trey got off the runabout and entered the shuttlebay and looked around. He had been flying to his next assignment for almost a week and was really glad he wasnt staying on the runabout any longer.

He shouldered a bag and carried a suitcase and looked around a bit as he walked through the bay and into the corridor. "Computer" he said, "has my file been transferred to your system?"

"Affirmative" the computer said. "Recognize Lieutenant Trey Fletcher, Chief Engineer."

"Great. Where are my quarters?" he said. The computer beeped and a yellow line appeared on the wall directing him. He followed it to the turbolift and went to the deck the computer suggested. He left the lift and continued walking until it took him to a set of doors. He gave his name, activated his security access and went inside.

He dropped his bag and looked around. The quarters were pretty decent. The bed looked comfortable at least. He put his things away and put some personal items around his quarters trying to make it look comfortable the way he liked it.

"Computer" he said, "where is the Captain?"

"The Captain is on holodeck three" the computer said.

"Then that's where I go" Trey said to himself. He wasnt in uniform but he didn't figure he had to be for a first meeting. He had studied the deck schematics on the way over so he got to the holodeck pretty quickly. He tapped the chime and waited to see if the Captain would be willing to let him introduce himself.

On the float in the middle of the pool, Calypso's head jerked up as the annunciator indicating someone was outside the holodeck was seeking entry. She blinked from behind the sunglasses as she yawned and glanced around. The 'sun' seemed to have moved a bit, which meant she'd been napping while working on her tan, probably about an hour and while the red bikini with black trim would cause tan lines, that could be taken care of easily enough. "Come in!" She called out, wiggling on the float to make sure she was as comfortable as she could possibly be on it. Besides, it was probably just Alex with an update on their journey.

Trey stepped into the holodeck and found himself poolside. He snapped a salute and said "Lieutenant Trey Fletcher reporting for...duty...wow" he stammered looking at the captain on the float.

“You just arrived on the runabout?” Cally glanced at him from under the sunglasses, lifting them for a better brief view, then dropping them again in non-chalance, “Come on over, grab a seat, take a dip, relaaaax, I don’t bite… Much.”

Trey didn't know where to look or not look. He stood by the edge of the pool and looked around. "I um dont have a swimsuit," he said. "I'm Lieutenant Engineer, your new Chief Fletcher. I mean, I'm Chief Fletcher your new Lieutenant Engineer." He cleared his throat. "Reporting in Ma'am."

"Well, Chief Lieutenant," Calypso grinned as she put another variation together, "I'm Captain Calypso Skyie, but everyone calls me Cally unless they really want me sole, undivided attention. Ma'am makes me feel old, or means we're in a more formal situation which I guarantee you this, this isn't. As for a swimsuit, you can always gin one up, this is a holodeck after all, or you can do without if you favor that direction. I'm Betazoid after all, so I've seen all the dangly bits many many times before." She waved languidly around.

Trey didnt know if it was a trap or just an invitation but he figured when in Rome. "Computer access my personal replicator files and replicate a set of swim trunks. The computer beeped and a set of trunks appeared next to him on the side of the pool. He picked them up and looked around for where to change but didnt see anything. He realized she would see most of him either way, so he walked a bit away and turned his back to her before changing out of his travel clothes and slipping his trunks on. He turned back around, trying not to let anything be too obviously obvious and moved quickly into the water which was thankfully cool.

"So Ma'a--Cally," he said, "Is this how all senior staff do their onboarding?"

"What, it's my fault where I am when senior staff finally deign to arrive?" Cally asked with a mock shrug, having watched him the entire time from the behind her sunglasses, "If you'd wanted, you could have gotten settled in and seen me in the morning, or commed me to see if I were somewhere more formal or made an appointment for the same or something of the sort. Instead, you came here and knocked on the door!" She had a mischievous grin on her face, "Or maybe this was intentional, will you ever know? Any complaints about it?"

"I mean I do enjoy swimming," he said trying not to stare and failing miserably while he treaded water. "I was always told captains value their time and to report in asap. I shouldve realized youd be recreating if you were on the holodeck. Sorry about that," he said.

"I value my time, yes, but I also believe in work hard, play hard and when we're not working, we should be having fun!" Cally smiled and pulled off her sunglasses, tossing them off to the side, where they hit the water and sank, "So welcome to the Chimera, where they send people who they think are one fuckup away from being canned, therefore are expendable and out in the middle of nowhere! I'm your cruise director, so if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask." She slid off the float, going under for a couple of seconds before pushing herself back to the surface and taking a couple of expert strokes over towards him, settling down to treading water about three feet away from him, "But it looks like you like what you see at least."

"I um...yeah I definitely do," he said as she came up closer he moved a bit closer to her as well. "And I guess thats why I'm here. I will make sure Engineering does well no matter if someone is a 'fuckup' as you say." He left almost a foot between them and smiled at her trying to look more confident than he felt.

"Well, not all of us are fuckups." Calypso said, "The girl you're replacing in Engineering is an excellent young engineer, graduated the Academy less than a year ago and has handled the job of Chief Engineer pretty well. Me? My sin was that I was a Marine shuttle pilot before joining the Fleet to fly starships and moving my way up." She kicked her legs and pushed him up against the wall, her body up against his, pinning him there as she held onto it, "What did you do to get exiled out here?"

He felt her body press against his and thanked whatever lucky stars were outside the ship she didn't accidentally bend something that was currently in no position to bend. His hands instinctively went around and grabbed her by the rear, holding her close, looking her in the eye. "I....I um..." He was having an extremely difficult time remembering important things like nouns and verbs. "I was sent here," he said stupidly. "I usually go and rework engineering departments to help with efficiency. This is my next posting...and I really cannot express enough how happy I am of that," he said pretty sure they could both tell his elevated heartbeat from the pulsing between them.

Meanwhile hers remained as it had been, calm, a rhythmic 'thu-thump' that he could feel of his own, "Then let Jade continue on as she does. Maybe give her some more of the harder work, so that I can finally beat her in a tennis match, but you'll like her." Her voice had grown softer as she planted her knees on the wall around his waist, her eyes telling him that she did have plans for him in the very near future, "But that just sounds like someone sent you here specifically? From everything I've seen our efficiency ratings are rather good, for the ship being what she is." It was a breathy voice now, whispering nearly into his ear.

Trey was having trouble staying focused and was a hairs breadth away from tearing both their swimsuits off, already half pulling at the strings behind hers. "Well, maybe because you only have an acting chief," he said desperately trying to focus on the conversation. "Either way I will make sure its at its best. Thats what Im there for."

It was clear that she'd felt him playing with the strings and in a moment where she felt him grabbing the hold of one of them to twist it, her eyes brightened and she twisted away from him, leaving her bikini bottoms in his hand drifting by the string that she'd undone. She eeled away like a fish halfway across the pool in what seemed like a heartbeat, undoing her top as she did so, holding it at the surface of the water with a wide smile on her face, "Of course, you'll have to catch me, won't you?"

Trey looked at the swimsuit piece in his hand and back up at the now far away figure of the captain not quite understanding what had just happened. He immediately started swimming towards her as fast as he could his current status hampering his speed but improving his ability to steer as she turned and tried to get around him. He did one more lap towards her and finally caught her towards the deep end of the pool, his hands grabbing her by the hips and pulling her towards him and spinning her around.

"So, Cally, what do I win?" he said, grinning and breathing hard.

She giggled, planting a kiss on his lips before stopping her idle kicking to drop into the water, grabbing at his swimsuit to tug it down with her before hitting bottom and pushing back up and into his arms once more, breathing perfectly easy as if no exertion had happened at all, "Well, I suppose I might be your prize right now, wouldn't I be, as the hare caught by the fox?"

The shock of Cally's movement overrode the discomfort of things snapping out of then back into position. He grinned ear to ear and pulled her closer. "Well thats first place to me then," he said wishing that line didnt sound so stupid out loud. He kissed her back and let his hands travel down her back again. "I owe Uncle Jubal huge for this assignment," he said to himself as he kissed her neck.

Her blood suddenly went cold and she tensed as that name and the context in which it was said hit her ears and most of the playfulness left her voice, "Do you refer to Vice Admiral Jubal Towers, Bureau of Personnel?"

"That's him. He's a friend of the family," Trey said still kissing along her neck but as his hands wandered he felt her stiffen and it finally got to his brain that something had shifted. "Why?" he said, looking at her confused.

As suddenly as she had allowed her own capture, she broke his hold on her and had gotten to the side of the pool and hauled herself out, taking two dripping steps giving him a good look at her backside before snatching up a bathrobe and slipping it on, "Your Uncle is the reason we're all out here in a ship that could barely hold air a year ago. I would suggest that you show up to Engineering early tomorrow, Lieutenant Fletcher, properly dressed." If her voice had been any colder, the pool would have frozen over.

"He....you....but...." Trey was at a total loss for words. He almost whimpered from the level of discomfort he was in and the total confusion he was experiencing. "Y-yes Cal-Ma'am. I will," he said.

"Then be about it it, Lieutenant." Calypso walked towards the door, bare feet padding on the pool decking, leaving wet footprints as the arch formed and the door slid open, "Computer? End program."

"Wai--FUCK!" Trey said as the pool and everything disappeared and he dropped like an anvil to the deck. He let out a grunt of pain as he landed on his backside and back his mast lowering as the fall knocked the wind out of his sails.

He stared at the ceiling still dripping wet and breathing hard. "What...the fuck...just happened...." he groaned crawling to his clothes and putting them back on. When he finally finished dressing he stood up gingerly and winced. "Fine. She wants me in early I'll be in early. She just better not let whatever stick is up her ass get in the way of my job," he growled, walking out of the holodeck.
