Meeting the Team

Mission:
The Interim
Location: Primary Science
The long walks would do wonders for her stamina, not that she wasn't already used to those long, long Starfleet corridors. It wouldn't hurt to find someone to carry her around, but they'd have to be cute. She giggled, how quickly she devolved from Scientist to Girl on the Prowl. Still though, looking up, there were a lot of perks to her condition. A thought she dismissed for later. It was time to meet her team.
The doors to the Science Lab opened for her, the signal from her miniaturized comm badge was boosted by the rig she built all those years back. It had since gone though some aesthetic iterations but, the old adage still held true: Ain't broke, Don't fix. She found the others, and fortunately it was quiet at the moment. "Umm, excuse me." she squeaked up. Well, to her it was just talking, but to the normal sized world it would be a bit higher of pitch. "Umm, Excuse me!" she called up again. She wasn't getting angry or frustrated, it just wasn't in the usual nature of folks to really look down.
Minerva was reviewing notes on various obscure objects of interest the crew had asked her to look at when the door to the lab opened and then closed without anyone walking in. She gave a shrug and made a mental note to call Jenna later to see if she could take a look. She was in the process of returning her attention to the PADD in her hand when movement on the deck caught her attention.
"Yes yes, hello, down here. No no, over here, umm, hi. Hello." she waved skyward. She very well easily could have just used the comm badge to call, but she wanted her team to become accustomed to the situation. And also to not scream when they saw her on the floor.
Minerva, unlike her best friend Jenna, had lost most of her Southern accent during her stay at the Academy, but not her use of good Southern colloquial expressions. "What in tarnashin?"
Mmmmmm, an accent...
"Oh, hello." she said up to the looming blonde, "My name's Rebecca. I'm the new department head." a pause, "No, you're not hallucinating, no it's not a trick of the light. Yes, I'm extra petite. Yes, it's a subspace compression event. Yes, I'm available." she giggled. "It's nice to meet you."
Minerva blinked several more times as Rebecca's words sunk in. "Um...okaaay." She was becoming more confused by the second.
The diminutive figure in an equally diminutive starfleet uniform just sighed, "Let's start over, shall we? Hi, my name's Rebecca, or Lieutenant McMillen if you must. I'm a recent transfer to the Chimera and, yes, I'm a bit on the short side. I'm the new department head, and I just wanted to meet everyone on my team."
"Ensign Minerva Delacroix, Archeologist. Pleasure to meet you ma'am." Minerva was just beginning to get over her initial shock at meeting a 5 centimeter tall human. "Might I ask. Where are you from?"
"Edison, New Jersey." Rebecca responded, "But, that's not how I managed to have this happen to me." she motioned to herself, her diminutive self. "I was stationed on a research station studying a subspace compression." she started. "Long story short, the station was destroyed and my escape pod got thrown through the compression anomaly. So... yeah." she actually smiled. "And yeah, it's very nice to meet you. And, yeah when it's just us, no need to ma'am. Just Rebecca, please. Look, I'm smaller than, well, any part of you. Ma'am works in official company but, I think Rebecca just works."
"If that's alright?"
Minerva smiled as she gave a nod of her head. She decided right then she was going to like Rebecca. "So? What do you do for fun Rebecca?" She leaned closer out
The diminutive officer giggled, "Oh, for fun I admire people's shoes." she snickered, looking up, and up, and up at Minerva, "Tell you what, I can either stand in your palm, or you can continue to enjoy looming over me." she smiled. "As for fun, no I don't really admire shoes. I like to read, I ... I make holodeck programs of back when I was normal size. Your size." she paused, then shook her head, "BUT... I've been this short for years so I'm used to it, and no regrets."
Minerva placed her hand on the floor palm up and lifted Rebecca onto the table. She then took a couple of PADDs and stacked them one atop another. She placed a soft linen cloth. "Have a seat. Get comfy."
Rebecca took the ride up, and then hopped off of Minerva's palm, then watched her assemble makeshift furniture for her. "Oooo, oh I like it." and the tiny woman sat on the cloth, then laid down a bit before sitting back up. "Very comfy, thank you. You know, I think you and I are going to be very, very good friends." she offered a smile up.
"So, what do YOU do for fun? Consider me interested."
"Well." Minerva gave Rebecca a wry grin. "I am very fond of the Hydra Lounge. Great place to mingle, especially if you're single. Though there is one fella that's off limits to me. Still leaves quite a few men to choose from though."
Rebecca gave a smile, "The Hydra Lounge, eh? Might have to take me there one of these days. Mostly cause it's a long walk for me." she smiled, kicking her legs as though to indicate WHY it would be a long walk for her. "And, well, I'm single so yeah sounds like someplace fun." and Minerva's talk about her potential targets brought a giggle from Rebecca. "Well, if we're talking about our preferences, the guys are all yours." she offered with a wink.
Minerva smiled. "Well, I know one girl you need to stay away from then. My best friend Jenna and her beau Rene are pretty head over heels for one another. Don't get me wrong. He is cute, but I never date a man shorter than me." Minerva grew curious. "So. Who have you met so far?"
"Got something against shorter people?" she teased, and giggled before she recalled, "Well, there's the Captain. She's fantastic." a pause, "Met the ship's second in command as well, very well informed. Then there's you." she pointed up and smiled. "So, so far so good. And yeah, if someone's already got someone in mind then they're off limits, but well, anyone else is fair game." she giggled.
"As long as they don't mind a shorter partner."
Minerva grew even more curious. "How would that work though. I mean. Is it even possible for you to interact with another person on a physically intimate level?"
Rebecca smirked, "Curious?" she paused, but then giggled again, "Well, I've never had anyone steady, and folks were usually afraid to hurt me, but the few times I've been with someone they had no complaints. Plenty of places to touch, to tease, to excite." she gave Minerva a wink.
Minerva chuckled as she shook her head. "Not that kind of curious. More about...oh never mind.... Perhaps I should take you on a tour of the science labs throughout the deck."
Rebecca giggled, amused, "Well, if you ever want to, drinking me under the table is easy." that little woman had such an amused, carefree giggle. "But, at the risk of sounding official, I think the tour would be lovely." she paused for a moment, "I think I'm going to like this posting very much. Alright, enough flirting for the moment." she straightened up her uniform. "Palm, or hold if you want. I think we're good on that. I mean honestly, talking about how I get intimate with folks, I think we're well past only being comfortable in your palm."
Minerva appeared thoughtful for a moment before starting towards the replicator. She keyed in a few programming commands and returned a minute later with a plush chair Rebecca's size that could be tied to a person's shoulder. "You're the new Chief Science Officer. You should perform your first inspection of the Science spaces in style."
Rebecca smiled, "You've had that prepared for far too long." she teased, and then gave a giggle, "I love it. A shoulder mounted supervisor. Nevermind that chair's style, I like YOUR style. Alright, let's get this started." She smiled wide. This was fun.
