Meeting The Captain

Posted on Thu Sep 9th, 2021 @ 4:21am by Captain Calypso Skyie & Lieutenant Mark Valleroy

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Holodeck 1
Timeline: Morning after Senior Staff

Mark arrived at Holodeck 1 and entered. He looked around and noticed that it was a rather impressive indoor pool setting. He looked around, looking for the one person he had been informed by the computer was here.

His timing had been impeccable, because Cally had just made the turn in the pool and was stretching out her time under the water as long as she could, using the dolphin kicks that were the best of the swimming moves for underwater. She finally surfaced with an inhalation as she turned her head to the side and began swimming hard for the other side of the pool. One of her glimpses noted the figure at the side of the pool, but she ignored him as she swam hard.

She reached out with the last stroke and touched the end as she allowed her momentum to drift her to a stop, then pushed off at an angle towards the figure at a more sedate pace, hauling herself partway out to rest on her arms as she pulled the goggles off her eyes and to her forehead, "May I help you?" She asked as she swiped a hand across her face, breathing hard.

Mark said, "I'm Lt. Mark Valleroy, the new security chief. I hope I'm not interrupting, Commander. That was a bit of impressive swimming there."

"Security chief?" A look of confusion crossed her face, "I wasn't expecting anyone for that slot at the moment.. Hell, no one told me we were expecting anyone else before we depart." She let herself drop down under the water and kicked off the bottom hard and used that momentum to help herself get out of the pool and climb to her feet, water dripping down her body, "And a full Lieutenant at that? My my... What sort of fairy godmother is looking out for us?" She asked rhetorically, "But what did you happen to do to be exiled out here? Or did no one tell you we're a bunch of misfits and layabouts?"

"Long story about my last assignment," Mark said, handing her a nearby towel. "It caused some of the crew, including myself, to rather abruptly be available for other assignments. I think I was a last-minute assignment to the Chimera. Admiral Towers said something about needing someone to...um, 'babysit the bunch of loons on the ship.' It should be noted that those were the admiral's words, not mine." The last sentence was added with an almost apologetic tone to it.

It also got a slightly suspicious look from Calypso at the mention of the Admiral as she began to dry off, “It does seem that we’ve become a focal point for people whom the Admiral dislikes.” She mentioned, “Myself included. Commander Calypso Skyie,” She finally introduced herself, “You’ve got no problems with the Marines, do you? I used to be one.”

"No, there's no problems. I'm someone who thinks that there's a time and a place for Marines. I'll admit I have little prior knowledge of Admiral Towers or any specific motivations that he may have, having not met him prior to him giving me my assignment here."

“Interestinger and interestinger.” Cally murmured before shrugging and starting to peel off her swimsuit after taking the two steps to where her uniform laid on the bench. Body modesty wasn’t something associated the best amongst Marines and she’d had it trained out of her at boot camp, “Well, no time like the present to get you caught up.”

Mark politely turned away once it became apparent that the captain intended to change right there. He supposed he shouldn't be surprised by her casualness on the subject. He'd certainly heard enough comments from fellow security colleagues who'd been in the Marines before transferring over for various reasons to know about their view on the subject, and of course, being the son of diplomats he'd heard about the attire (or rather, lack thereof) at certain Betazoid functions like weddings. But still, turning away instead of standing there gawking like a teenager seemed like the appropriate thing to do.

She began attiring herself as she spoke, “You missed the staff meeting yesterday, but in a nutshell we’re getting underway tomorrow morning and acquiring some additional supplies from some of the other mothballed ships. Creatively and under the table, mind you. Your assistant chief is an experienced Ensign who’s taken good care of your department, Rene Rouen, and he should be an asset to you. You’re desperately understaffed at the moment, Rene has the details, and you’ll be getting most of the rest of your people at the Starbase once we get there.” She finally sealed her trousers and slipped on her uniform jacket before beginning to toe on her shoes.

"Anything you need from me in the meantime?" Mark asked. "I knew we were having some issues with personnel and supplies and such, but I'm beginning to get the nagging feeling that it's worse than I've heard about."

"Plenty of problems with that, but I do know Rene is working on it. It's safe to turn back around." Calypso smiled at the fact that he'd turned to give her privacy of a sort, "I also know that we're short on shuttles as well, so I'm also planning on putting together a couple teams or people to um... 'Acquire' either two or three from ships that don't need them anymore."

"Let me know if you need any help with that," Mark said. "I know a thing or two about dealing with snagging shuttles, and I might be of some assistance in that regard"

With a growing grin, Cally mimed drawing a sword from her empty belt, then, using an index finger proceeded to tap Mark on each shoulder, "Then I dub you as the head of yourself or a team to retrieve one of the shuttles. I can have the list of available craft and what ships they're on to you within just a few minutes."

"Then I beseech thee to do so, my lady," Mark said with an overly dramatic bow. "I'll take a peek into the security offices and see if I can touch bases with Ensign Rouen. Then I shall start planning."

"Then be about it, Mark. If you need me for anything, I'll be around and you can always comm if you can't find me." She smiled brightly, "And welcome aboard."
