Can I Help? Please?

Posted on Thu Sep 9th, 2021 @ 2:44am by Ensign Danielle Michelson

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Main Engineering

Ensign Michelson had several things on her to do list for the day. Even more now that the Captain had finished her briefing, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle. Even if they were a bunch of 'greenies' was the word she over heard in the corridor. The best course had been chosen to expand their options with the transporters, but at the same time not draw to much attention to the Luna Class Starship moving about the boneyard. Danielle wasn't going to leave anything unprepared, she went and ran a diagnostic on the aerowing and laid in a few options for the crew as far as the easiest course choices. She figured whoever was in the aerowing could handle it but just in case. Making her way out of the shuttle bay her next stop was to see if she could be of any assistance in engineering.

It didn't take long for the Ensign to arrive in the main area of engineering, she wasn't really sure what was going on or who was in charge. There were people in gold uniforms working at several consoles and as one walked toward her she smiled "Excuse me" she was ignored as the man walked right by her and out the door. As Danielle made her way further into the engine room she found a woman wearing the Lieutenant Junior Grade rank and approached her, making every attempt to be polite "excuse me ma'am, I was wondering if I might be of any assistance" she paused "I'm not an engineer by any means, just a pilot trying to lend a hand."

Laura ignored the voice at first, instead watching over her own personal fiefdom, for the moment. She'd finally gotten rid of that insufferable Ensign Jade, sending her on what could only be an extended trip to the Olympic to pick up a few things. Finally, after she'd asserted her primacy of position by determinedly not paying attention, she ran over the words this young woman in red in front of her had just spoken, "A pilot, huh? And does this pilot have a name?"

"Sorry ma'am" she wasn't making a great first impression "Ensign Danielle Michelson" she followed up and hoped for the best.

"Well then, Ensign Michelson, let's see..." Laura finally truly deigned to put her full attention to the Ensign, "What do you have experience with? I obviously can't put you to work with the warp core if you've never had any sort of experience with it, but if you've got some knowledge of another area, I might be able to find something to give you."

"Obviously, ma'am" Danielle agreed and gave a soft smile hoping the engineer didn't take that the wrong way and get pissed. "I've done plenty of work on shuttles" she smiled hoping that would some how help "I got the navigational sensors aligned this morning and prepped the aerowing for it's mission."

Laura pursed her lips and debated if it was a slight to her, but decided not to push it, "I know that the shuttles were checked out by her Highness Commander Skyie already, she did that without my knowledge, and I'm not sure she's truly qualified to judge if anything's wrong with them." She tapped her fingers against her leg, "Was there anything wrong with the nav sensors? What was the result of the diagnostic after you aligned them?"

"They were only slightly misaligned" she gave a nod and a smile "my diagnostic, well you can see it here" Danielle offered Davenport a PADD she had with her.

The engineer took it from her with two fingers, almost as if it were a disgusting piece of equipment, then scrolled through the diagnostic results, nodding as she did so, "I see... Not bad, not bad..." She muttered, not wanting to have to review this, "Well, if you could at least get a diagnostic on all the small craft we've got, see if there's anything wrong and fix it if you can, I guess that would be a good start to things?"

"So you want me to go back to the shuttle bay and re-do the work that Commander Skyie already completed" Danielle asked, not sure if she understood everything.

"Well, yes. Since she's not an engineer, I'd like someone to double check her work." Laura nodded firmly, "It's not that I don't trust her, but I'm supposed to be sure, right?"

Danielle swallowed "I'm not an engineer, either" she squinted her eyes, making wrinkles appear between her eyebrows "in fact I'm sure the Commander is far more qualified to look at them, but I can run diagnostics like you suggested" she felt like she may have just stepped in a big old pile of trouble.

Pity, concern, something... Draw the Ensign over to her side, perhaps she could make use of her in other ways, "Think of it this way," Laura's tone had changed, "If the Commander did a good job, all you're doing is confirming it, right? That itself is a very useful task."

"Yes" she shook her head and didn't say what she was thinking "I see your point, am I dismissed?" she looked Davenport in her eyes, not really a fan of this woman.

"Yes, of course." Laura said, handing Danielle's PADD back to her, "And just let me know when you're done?"

"Aye" Danielle took the PADD and spun on her heels, almost literally biting her tongue.
