The First Meeting Of (Senior) Staff

Posted on Wed Sep 8th, 2021 @ 8:07pm by Captain Calypso Skyie & Lieutenant JG Jenna Jade & Lieutenant Commander Tyler Driskill & Lieutenant JG Faith Vianelli & Captain Natalya Markova & Ensign Danielle Michelson & Ensign Rene Rouen & Master Chief Petty Officer Samuel Ross

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Conference Room

Calypso finally set up the last of the refreshments herself. Yes, she could have asked Sam to set something up, he would have done it without question and no doubt he'd be scolding her in the near future for doing something ELSE that someone of a lower rank could have handled. But, what was replicating some minor snacks, making sure water was available along with a couple carafes of coffee? It wasn't that much work.

So she sighed and straightened her uniform before going back over to the head of the table and tapping the comm, "Can I have the senior officers of each department please report to the conference room." She actually grimaced as she released the comm button and meandered towards the door to greet them as they entered. Senior officers? Sure, she was hoping to get some higher ranking ones on board, but most of what she had were Ensigns with a leavening of junior grade Lieutenants.

Rene stepped into the conference room almost immediately as he'd been on the bridge running checks on the Tactical station. He gave Cally a nod of his head and shook her hand as he entered. "Good morning Captain."

The First Officer entered the conference room. A cup of coffee in his hand and a smile on his face as he took the seat close tot he Commander and offered a slight nod.

Sam entered the conference room and gave a silent nod to the three officers already in attendance. Like the First Officer he held a coffee mug emblazoned with the ship's crest and the letters COB under the logo. He took a seat at the opposite end of the table.

Ensign Michelson was in a simulator when the Commanding Officer called for the ships senior staff. She felt late and slightly embarrassed when she entered the conference room, she admired Cally as a Commanding Officer already and didn't want to let her down. Danielle took her seat as quietly as possible and waited for the meeting to officially start.

Faith entered the conference room quietly, unsure why she was even there, yet her presence had been requested. She took a seat at the table and glanced around.

Cally felt the relative quiet getting to her, so she turned to Tyler and kept her voice low, “What do you think so far? I’ve got that company of extra marines working on the general cleaning with the Gunny watching over them right now.”

"We may be better off with this lot then experienced officers" Tyler whispered back "at least these are fresh minds that are willing to take input and critisisim." His attention was caught when the door parted and their acting CMO and Operations Chief walked in the door.

“We’ll have to get creative then.” Calypso grinned ferally for a moment, “When we start getting a reputation and everyone wants to come on board, we’ll need to find a way to keep them where they’re at.” She left no room for debate that they’d be successful, then straightened up in her seat and took a sip of the coffee in front of her.

With a thermos in hand - filled with coffee, because Marines - Natalya Markova stepped into the conference room. It was a new experience for her, having a full-staff meeting. She was used to getting the snippet of information she needed from her Company Commander, and her operation orders. This was... new. The Marine settled into a seat at the table, and tried to relax. Tried to. "Commander, everyone." She said with a nod around the table.

Sam looked at the Marine Officer. "CO is always addressed as Captain aboard their ship, regardless of their permanent rank."

Rene pulled out his PADD in preparation to take notes during the meeting. He'd heard a Chief Engineer had boarded yesterday. He wondered if Jenna would be a part of the meeting as she was the person tasked with getting the warp drive back online.

Last in was a pair of people, both in the gold of engineering. The Lieutenant looked around the table and finally selected a seat, looking at the woman behind her and pointed at the wall behind her.

Rene smiled at Jenna as she entered behind the other woman.

Jenna, holding a handful of PADDs in her arms, glanced around the table and saw Rene on the other side of it and suddenly found the PADDs she held very interesting as her face went red in a heartbeat.

Calypso noted that and raised an eyebrow for a second, then cleared her throat, "All right, I think that's everyone I'm expecting at the moment, if anyone else shows up, we'll bring them up to speed." She smiled, "Welcome aboard to everyone, I know we're mostly strangers to each other, but this will change. Mostly, you all weren't assigned to be senior officers on board, with Lieutenant Markova being the exception, but until we get more senior people in, you are in those positions."

"But to begin with, I want to introduce myself, then we'll go around and have each of you do the same. I am Commander Calypso Skyie, Commanding Officer. I started off as an enlisted Marine right before the start of the Dominion War, serving in the front line before being recalled for flight training, flying assault shuttles and then fighters. After a bad accident, I was given the choice to resign or transfer to the Fleet, so I learned to fly starships. If any of you heard about what happened to USS Perseus, that was my last stint as XO and I managed to swing command of Chimera after getting through some rehab." She gestured to Tyler to be the next one up.

"Lieutenant Commander Tyler Driskill" he offered a slight nod to the table, several of the faces he was seeing for the first time. "I'm the ship's First Officer and most of my time in Starfleet was in the security and tactical department" he paused as he looked around the room. "This isn't my first run as a First Officer" Tyler smiled "and I'm here for you guys and the Captain."

Rene opted to introduce himself next. "Ensign Rene Rouen. Officially assigned as Deputy Chief Security and Tactical Officer. My previous tour of duty was aboard the USS Ganymede where I rotated through each department divisions, force protection, defense systems, torpedo and gunnery." He glanced at the Captain as a line from an ancient movie came to mind. "I guess I am the Acting Chief of Security. Until I am dead or you find someone better."

Calypso stifled a groan and covered her face with her palm for a moment as she caught the Starship Troopers reference, then shook her head, “Let’s avoid the ‘dead’ part of we may, Ensign Rouen.” Then she waved her hand for the next officer.

Davenport shook her head as she sighed, “Lieutenant Laura Davenport, Chief Engineer.” She didn’t mince words, she was THE boss down there until other officers arrived, “I’ve been around the block a few times, general engineering. Unlike most of you kids… Kids, we’ve got a crew of damned kids…” She muttered the last line halfway audibly, not bothering to introduce the Ensign standing behind her

Although slightly shy Valerie knew she would have to do this eventually. She found Rene a little harsh with his statement about being dead, but maybe he was right "Ensign Valerie Sheldon, Operations Officer" she paused for a second and then quickly let out a shy "this is my first assignment."

"Danielle Michelson, Chief Flight Control Officer" she said with a slight smile on her face "and this is my first real assignment" the Ensign looked over at Valerie with a look trying to let her know it was going to be okay. She trusted Cally already so the smile grew on her face when she looked over at the Captain and stated "very glad to be here."

Doctor Adiff the blue skinned man said with a smile "don't get broken because I'm all you got to put you back together." It was a joke and Adiff chuckled "but you'll generally find me in sickbay."

"Natalya Markova, First Lieutenant. I'm your Marine Commanding Officer. Drop us in a hell-hole, and we'll make our own way out." Nat offered with a nod around the table.

"I guess it's my turn," Faith offered a small smile. "My name is Faith Vianelli, I'm in my second last year at the Academy but I've been assigned to the Chimera to complete my studies while on active assignment. I'm part of the medical department, studying counseling."

The last one to speak was Sam. He looked at the officers gathered with his COB face. "Master Chief Gunner's Mate Samuel Ross. Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Captain here." He gestured down the table to Calypso. "Formerly NCOIC for the Academy gunnery range. I've known the Captain for about ten years now. Some of you younger folks I remember from your Academy days. The rest I look forward to working with."

"Thank you all and welcome." Calypso sighed lightly, "Well, let's get this thing going. We're under orders to arrive at Starbase 614 in roughly five weeks, but we've got a couple problems. Only one of the problems is that we're short on senior officers, we're also short on supplies of virtually all types, plus we're missing several shuttles and a runabout that I've not been able to cadge back. That added on top of the problems we've got with the ship means we've got problems that we have to solve."

"Our Engineering section, limited though it's been, with the help of just about everyone has done rather well for us." Cally looked to Laura, "Lieutenant Davenport? Do you have a current update for us?"

Laura snapped her fingers once and held out a hand, to which Jenna placed the top PADD into it, which she glanced at the screen, "We're at about thirty percent of our replicator mass, twenty-two percent reaction mass for our emergency thrusters, deuterium tanks are at eighteen percent full and should last us about twenty-five days overall before we're drifting in space." She snapped her fingers again, another PADD, "And before you ask, Commander, the reason we haven't blown up yet is because the insane experiment you wanted us to do seems to be working. Seventy percent power generation is now available and we can maintain our cruising velocity with what we've had." Laura looked around at everyone, "It was a truly idiotic idea that should by all rights have blown us up."

Cally's hand slammed down on the table with a crack, causing the Engineer to jump, "That will be enough, Lieutenant." She snapped, exhaling sharply. Then closed her eyes for a moment, "Thank you for the update." She morphed her voice's tone to something resembling politeness, "Requisitions have been turned down on all fronts, aside from medical needs, where we've gotten about half of what we asked for. Given that we have those problems, I'd like to open the floor to any ideas on how we can get what we need?" She already had a plan in mind, but it never hurt to get other ideas.

It wasn't just the engineer that jumped, Faith jumped as well, eyes widening as she looked toward Cally before looking away quickly. opting to just remain silent.

Rene gave the question some thought. Logistics was a bit outside his area of expertise. The scale of support they needed was way above his pay grade. Still, he wanted to make a suggestion. "We could contact other Starfleet ships in the region. Perhaps get a few supplies and equipment laterally transferred to us. Though we might have to scrounge up a cargo shuttle to pick up the stuff we need."

“That’s a good one, Ensign Rouen,” Cally admitted, one she hadn’t thought of herself, exactly. She pointed at Tyler to take notes, “Get the deployment and patrol schedules of all ships between here and the Starbase and their status on supplies of all types.” She returned her attention to Rene, “We can always cannibalize an asteroid, given the facilities on the ship, but it takes too much time. Interesting little factoid on the Lunas. Anyone else?” She asked the rest of the people around the table.

Not surprised at the silence after a few seconds, Cally nodded, "In fact, what I've come up with is relatively similar to your idea, Ensign, just with a few refinements." She gestured to the windows, "Out there are a couple hundred starships in mothballs. There is a crew of about a hundred maintenance workers assigned to the Boneyard to perform critical upgrades and generally keep the ships in a functional capability. What these ships have in common is one thing: There are no crews on board."

She smiled brightly, "They do have whatever they were decommissioned with, which includes reactor mass, typically about fifty or more percent of maximum reserves. The maintenance crews draw on those reserves to keep the power on and make repairs. Since these ships aren't going anywhere anytime soon and generally they'll be resupplied after recommissioning, I intend to liberate what we need from them." Cally gestured to Valerie Sheldon, "Ensign Sheldon has put together a list of the best targets for our heist. Ensign, take it away."

"Yes" Sheldon stood from her seat and nervously made it over to the screen that currently had the United Federation of Planets emblem. Once Ensign Sheldon touched the screen a control panel came up and she brought up the information the Captain had asked her to obtain earlier. The screen started centered around the USS Chimera - NCC 80118 and with the push of a button the screen started expanding, dozens and then hundreds of ships that were scheduled for repair. "As you can see the Captain was of course right" she turned and faced the room as the screen started displaying little icons for not only the USS Chimera - NCC 80118 but several other ships that were rather close to their location.

"There is a basically derelict Olympic class hospital ship with in transporter range that is full of medical supplies, sensor equipment” she looked over at the doctor “I'm sure you can find lot's of useful things.” Valerie turned her attention back to the head of the table and to the command team “The USS Hera, a Prometheus class just stay off the lower three decks and you should be fine.” Valerie smiled “the best thing about the Hera, it's all mixed in with a bunch of shuttles and hasn't had much attention in years. Should be no problem to take a shuttle closer and beam a small team in” she paused and started back to her seat “I've sent this info to everyone's PADD as well ma'am.” There were several other targets that she was sure they would be interested in, most of which shouldn't get them to much attention.

Having already seen the information Calypso nodded, "Thank you, Valerie." Then tapped her PADD as she glanced from officer to officer, "Hopefully by now, you've all been able to determine what each of your sections needs still in physical inventory. I sure hope so, because if not, you're going to be a bit busy for the next several hours." She looked directly at Danielle, "Danielle, I want you to start plotting us a potential course to take us close enough to the Hera for us to make our acquisitions. The rest of you are going to determine which ships in Valerie's list have what you need for your departments. When you do, pass on the ship name and location to Danielle so she can add that target to our course as well." Cally smile slightly, "And I'm going to need volunteers to take the Aerowing for a test flight to the ones outside our current transporter range, to set up transporter tags so we can just transport said supplies on our way past. Any takers?"

Rene sat looking at the list on his PADD for a moment as he listened to Cally. He glanced up at her. Normally he would probably have a problem with this sort of creative acquisition process, but Admiral Towers was actively setting them up for failure by interfering with supplies, shorting them on personnel and giving them impossible deadlines to meet. "I have one question to ask Captain."

"Ask away, Rene." Cally smiled at him, curious as to what he was thinking.

"When we meet our deadline, who gets to give Towers the Troll a middle finger salute?"

Her smile turned into a wolf's grin, "There's a firing range on the outskirts of the Boneyard. Danielle, making that the exit of our course. Rene, put together a firing sequence for the largest asteroid out there. Have fun with it."

"Yes ma'am" Danielle said with a smile and a nod, she was already looking on the provided map for the best course possible. Of course the console at the conn would give her a much better idea once she got to it.

Rene turned to Danielle with a chuckle and a mirthful expression. "Think we could pull off that stunt that we di...."

Sam cleared his throat loudly. "Ensigns Michelson and Rouen. Don't even think about it."

Danielle gave an 'oh shit' look at Sam and then smiled at Rene "I think we better stick to our orders."

“Just leave the middle finger on the asteroid, Rene, with a capital T.” Calypso chuckled, “Anything else? No? All right, let’s be about it.”

Rene jerked a thumb at Danielle as he looked at Calypso. "Dani here gets me in close enough. I'll etch Towers fingerprint on the asteroid with the phasers." Sensing the meeting was coming to a close he closed down his PADD and waited to be dismissed with the other officers.

Faith had watched the entire exchange but remained silent, making mental notes of the way the crew interacted. She picked up the PaDD that had been on the desk in front of her and hugged it to her chest as she waited to be dismissed.

“All right everyone, up, off and away.”
