Earth History

Personal History Rene was born on August 31st, 2371 to Pierre and Gabrielle Rouen in the city of Paris, France. His father, Pierre, was a Grandmaster Fencing competitor and owner/operator of Paris' oldest and most prestigious fencing academy. Gabrielle was a highly renowned gymnast, who in her teens, had earned three Olympic Gold Medals. Rene learned both sets of skills from his parents.

Rene had always had a curious and adventurous nature growing up. He loved sports and excelled at football (soccer), as well as, fencing and gymnastics. He was highly intelligent as well and knew from an early age he wanted to be in Starfleet. Starfleet Academy only took the best and the brightest though. He put as much effort, if not more, into his academic studies as he did into his athletic pursuits.

Rene fell in love for the first time at the age of fourteen and it was definitely love at first sight. The young girl, who he only knew as Foi (the French word for Faith), was also his first kiss in a secluded section of the Tuileries Gardens. She had promised to meet him later that day on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower, but she never showed.

Rene entered Starfleet Academy at 17. He spent the next four years striving to do his best and curb his impulsiveness. He was sometimes perceived as reckless by his instructors, but no one could fault him for his academic achievements.

His skill with a sword became known all throughout the Academy by the end of Orientation Week. He became the first Academy Freshman to Captain the Fencing Team and led the team to numerous tournament wins on Earth and throughout Sector 001. He also became an even more accomplished unarmed combat fighter under the training of the Academy's most skilled martial arts instructor, Lieutenant Commander Driskill.

Rene met and became friends with Danielle Michelson during his second year at the Academy when the two cadets were in the same shuttlecraft flight training course that all officer candidates must take. She was the better pilot, but he was exemplary in handling the tactical systems of a shuttlecraft. They were an unbeatable team when it came to mock dogfights during flight competitions. Cadet Michelson was one of the few female cadets that could not only resist Rene's charms, but actually chided him on his numerous attempts to find love.

Rene's third year had him declare his advanced training track in the Security/Tactical Branch. He received more extensive training in the areas of ship's weaponry and defensive systems use. Even harder and more physically demanding armed and unarmed combat training. He developed an almost legendary status as a ship's gunnery officer on the Academy Range in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, even impressing the Range NCOIC Master Chief Gunner's Mate Samuel T. Ross.

Rene was in line to graduate at the top of the Security/Tactical Branch Cadets but made mistake during his final tactical exercise to an Andorian cadet who used Rene's ego against him.

Rene did receive a good posting after graduation aboard the Luna-class vessel USS Ganymede. He spent nearly two years rotating through the various division officer billets. He always attributed his success to the outstanding mentoring of experienced Division Leading Petty Officers that saw him through each assignment.
