This Could've Been Handled in a Staff Meeting

Posted on Sun May 10th, 2026 @ 5:08am by Lieutenant Kally Kellerman & Captain Calypso Skyie

Mission: Die Hard: Chimera Edition
Location: Cally's Quarters
Timeline: 14 Hours from Station

Kally stretched gently as she slowly came back to consciousness. She rolled over and was surprised to find the other half of the bed empty. She looked around and saw the bedroom was empty as well. She threw back the sheet and swung her legs over and put her feet on the floor, heading to the bathroom to freshen up.

A few minutes later, Kally walked out into Cally's living room and smiled, seeing Cally sitting back on the couch, a padd in one hand, a cup of coffee in the other. Kally sauntered over and sat down next to her, leaning over and sneakily taking a sip from her girlfriend's coffee mug.

Cally's eyes flicked over to Kally briefly as she reviewed the PADD with the morning briefing on it, a smile on her face as she watched her out of her peripheral vision. As Kally took her sip, Cally moved the mug away from her, "Heyyyy, get your own!"

Kally smiled and moved to straddle Cally's lap, kissing her and letting her taste the coffee on Kally's lips. "Good morning," she purred.

Oh well, it could be forgiven. Cally dropped the PADD on the couch next to her, to be able to wrap that one arm around her, "It's getting better and better." She kissed Kally back, "Even if we're going to be getting to the station just about the middle of the night tonight."

"I've always liked arriving at places overnight," Kally said. "Makes it exciting to wake up and suddenly there's a new sight out the window." She ran her fingers through Cally's hair and kissed her again. "Plus, if we have someone over as we arrive at a station, we get to use my favorite pun, 'initiating docking procedures.'" She snickered and gave Cally a wink.

A hand came down in a firm yet gentle smack of Kally’s bare bottom, even as the Captain, in a state of dress only slightly more decent, gave a chuckle of her own, “My, you’re in a good mood for someone who got delayed in getting home.”

"Well, why shouldn't I be in a good mood?" Kally purred. "We're not under attack, we're heading back to Federation space, no one's broken my jaw in weeks, and the last few nights have been absolutely magical. And I really enjoyed it being just us last night." She smiled and kissed Cally's forehead. "And I very much like how happy and rested you've looked recently. You've been under too much stress. Frankly, the whole crew has; they could use a day off at a cozy station."

“Stress is part of the job, sweetheart, otherwise they’d give ships to just anyone, like a marine pilot. Oh wait, too late.” Cally planted a kiss just below Kally’s throat, as Kally flicked Cally's shoulder. “But unfortunately, it’s just most of the crew that gets almost two days off in a luxury hotel on the surface. A few of us, you and me included, have to act as mediators between the local government and an environment activist group instead. And then, because we have to treat every threat as real, others are going to have to secure the elevator base, because a group of lunatics have called in bomb threats on this meeting. But, once we’re at Deep Space Sixteen? Then we get to really relax.”

Kally sighed. "I thought rank and position came with privilege," she sighed. A thought occurred to her and she made a face. "That means dress uniforms, doesn't it," she said.

"Technically, yes..." Cally stated, "But I may skip that factor and just go in regular uniform. The dress ones are just to stiff and not comfortable."

They both groaned slightly. "How long do we have till we arrive?" she said.

"Fourteen hours, so we'll arrive effectively at local midnight." Cally squeezed her girlfriend gently with her hands, "We're not scheduled to start the meeting until about 0900, so we're not in that much of a rush."

"Oh, well, that's not so bad," Kally said, brightening. "I'll get things wrapped up in Sickbay and leave shift a bit early and we can go maybe have dinner with Fulvia and T'Vel, then snuggle up on the holodeck."

"That sounds like a plan, but with the two of them, or just by ourselves?" Cally's eyes danced in mirth, "We can figure it out on the fly."

Kally grinned at her and kissed her, then looked down at the padd Cally had put down and picked it up. "So what are you working on?"

"Just the scheduling for everything that's going to happen over the next couple days." Cally smiled smugly, "Getting the crew sent down via their space elevator, the itinerary for the initial diplomatic meetings, making sure there's some off-ship storage for those things that can be affected by a baryon sweep..."

"There's going to be a baryon sweep?" Kally half-shouted, her voice sounding panicked. "And we only have fourteen hours to prepare?" She leaped off of Cally's lap. "I need to get started!"

"What do you mean?" Cally gave her a confused look, "There's a ton of time, no real rush."

"I need to make sure every organic sample in sickbay is catalogued and properly stored! I need to get all the organic medications logged and stored! I need to get all organic substances out of the labs! I need to get everyone assigned duties so we get it done in time with a margin for error! Shit, I need to get to Sickbay!" She rushed out the door of Cally's quarters at full speed.

The doctor moved so quickly that Cally didn't have enough time to react and grab her, "But sweethea-" She stopped as the figure was already around the corner, then shook her head with a smile.

A moment later she speed-walked back in and to the bedroom, red in the face. "Clothes. I need clothes."

"Why?" Cally teased Kally, "Why would you need to do that? Hasn't everyone already seen you naked already?"

"I think there's still a half dozen who haven't," Kally snarked from the bedroom. A moment later she came out dressed in the shirt and skirt she'd worn the previous day. She'd have to stop by her quarters for a quick shower and change into a fresh uniform. This is why people keep drawers in their partner's quarters, she thought, blushing a bit at the thought that they could be at that stage.

She walked over to Cally and gave her a kiss. "I'm going to try to get as much done as we can this shift and get next shift ahead, and we can enjoy dinner and after." She bobbed her eyebrows and smiled. "My quarters, 1900 hours?"

"Sounds like a plan, and remember." Cally stood up from her chair, still in her own short shorts and t-shirt, then stretched languidly, "You've got peons that you can delegate those tasks to. Make Henry, Tessa, F'Arra and Erika do most of the work, just like some of your other people. You're 'The Boss', you can do that."

"Oh, trust me, we'll all be working our tails off," Kally said. She stood on tiptoe and kissed Cally once more. "Love you. See you at 1900." She turned and rushed quickly out of Cally's quarters to go ruin her staff's day.

"Love you too." Cally smiled as Kally ran off, then glanced at the chrono. There was a lot of studying to do, but plenty of time to do it in.
