Mission: The Dexic Negotiations
Location: SB 614 & USS Chimera
Timeline: 1000 Hrs

[ON]

[Starbase 614 - Docking Pylon Four: USS Chimera Main hatch]

A Vulcan couple approached the Security Officer on duty at the hatchway, and presented their identification.

"Good morning Sir, M'arm" The Officer ran their names against the incoming crew transfer roster, checking them both off.

"Welcome, aboard. Your quarters are on Deck Two, Commander. If you leave your luggage here I'll have it taken up there. Captain Skyie requests you in her Ready Room as soon as you come aboard. Nearest turbolift is straight ahead, third on the left" He pointed down the hatchway corridor.

[Bridge & Captain's Ready Room]

Stepping off the lift the pair were met by a Yeoman. "One moment sir, she said. I'll let the Captain know you are here"

She crossed over to the Ready Room and stuck her head in "I have Lieutenant Commander Stenn next Sir; Chief Science Officer and Ms Valsai Tolkath, Federation Diplomatic Service. Shall I show them in?"

Calypso looked up from the PADD she had in her hands, a riveting report on the resupply of reactor and replicator mass, the breakdown of which was threatening to put her to sleep. "Yes, please, P-O, by the Four I need something to get this out of my head, besides... I've been expecting them."

The Yeoman nodded and a moment later a Vulcan couple entered. The male in Starfleet Teal, the woman in a dark robe, with the purple bands of the Federation Diplomatic service. Both were tall and athletic, typically Vulcan features, he moved with purpose, she with an easy grace.

The Male came to attention and announced himself. "M'arm, Lieutenant Commander Stenn, Service Number Tango-Foxtrot-704-100. My orders Captain"

He placed a PaDD on Skyie's desk and gestured to the woman next to him.

"May I present my wife, Valsai, Federation Diplomatic service."

She gave a gentle bow of her head. "Pleased to meet you Captain" She said smoothly, stepping forward and also placing a PaDD on the desk. "My credentials"

She stepped back to join her husband. "We come to serve" She finished with the traditional Vulcan saying.

As they had entered, Calypso had stood and straightened her uniform out. It wasn't as good as a properly turned out dress uniform, but it would do. "It's a pleasure to meet both of you." She inclined her head in the most appropriate manner, rather than the more traditional handshake that humans used and many others had adopted.

Instead, she tried to be as composed as possible, "Commander Calypso Skyie, Commanding Officer, welcome aboard the Chimera." A smile crept on her face, "And it's really a pleasure to have you on board Commander, I'm afraid that your science section isn't a coherent unit yet, they're mostly coming aboard even as we speak. But on the plus side, you've got a Luna-class to play around with, with all of the sensors and labs that you could ask for. Of course, we're in bad need of upgrades, but Commodore Everly has a spot for us when we get back."

"Thank you Captain" Stenn replied "I shall endeavor to have the Science division operational as soon as is practicable. I believe we will find plenty of opportunities to make use of the vessel's scientific facilities during our upcoming explorations"

Cally turned her attention to Valsai, "And it will be a pleasure to have you on here with us, Valsai, while we have Ambassador O'Connor aboard for our trip to Dexic, it's because he's a specialist in this region. Once we are able to get out of the region and into unknown space, I'm sure we'll be in need of your services." She again inclined her head in respect to the diplomat.

Valsai nodded. "I have received a briefing on Ambassador O'Connor's mission. My understanding is that the local Dexic opposition towards Federation membership maybe a result of surreptitious influence by the Breen. If so it may be part of a wider strategy to prevent the Federation consolidating a foothold in this border region. I shall endeavor to be off assistance to him during negotiations"

“It might be the Breen, but it would have to be some client of theirs doing it.. Unless the reports I’ve seen or wrong, all we’ve heard from them since the War have been warnings to leave their territory and it’s surroundings or be fired upon.” Cally shook her head slowly, “My bet is something homegrown and I want to find out if we possibly can. Still, we’re primarily being a taxi for the Ambassador to get there and back, which he’ll no doubt let us in on at the briefing tomorrow. I’ll have a talk with him before to wheedle out more information if I can.”

She looked back to Stenn, the more ostensibly official member of the crew, “If I may ask, Stenn, what are your areas of specialty? From our original trip out this direction, I know you’ve got a Cadet named Minerva that has been focusing on anthropology and archaeology, but I’m wanting to make sure we can cover as many of the specialties as possible, and find out what all you’ll need so we’re fully mission capable.”

"My first Doctorate was on quantum dynamic degeneration sequence calculations for trans-warp field theory" Stenn replied. "After a Vulcan Science Academy mission to the Gamma quadrant I wrote my second Doctorate on the various biological species we encountered there." These accomplishments were delivered in a neutral tone

"I have also had a life long interest in history and archeology. In recent years as a Chief Science Officer I broadened my range as needed. Though I have not yet had the opportunity to review the incoming Science division personnel, I trust we will be able to deliver a well-rounded and broad spectrum of knowledge and abilities to meet the Chimera's scientific needs, Captain"

“And if you’re missing any specialties or just feel weak in an area, let me know and I’ll push through a personnel request.” Cally agreed, “The Four know that I’ll be leaning hard on you and your section. For your information, I started as an enlisted Marine and turned into a small craft pilot before transferring to the Fleet. I’ve got some of the basics of science and engineering, but I wouldn’t be willing to trust my own knowledge when the manure hits the rotary air impeller. I’ll leave that to the real pros.”

Stenn nodded. "Understandable Captain"

"On the other hand, is there anything either of you require from me? I can't guarantee anything, but I'll do my damndest." Being good was hard, especially when her personality tried to out itself as she wasn't the most... Correct.

Stenn looked to his wife. She shook her head and replied. "I do not believe so at this time, thank you Captain"

"In that case, Stenn, Valsai, welcome aboard and go get settled in. There will be plenty of time for us to get to know each other and to get used to the ship." Cally smiled brightly, "Plenty of time."

"Thank you Captain. We look forward to be of service to you and the Chimera" Stenn concluded.
