From Sickbay, With Greetings

Posted on Sat Sep 4th, 2021 @ 2:02am by Captain Calypso Skyie

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Sickbay

The arrivals kept coming in, dribs and drabs, ones and twos. And finally, after nearly a week, one was a doctor. She'd read the transmission to her PADD and knew that the doctor had come in with an Operations officer, who she'd already met a couple hours previously, but then she'd gotten busy (again) and had to put off going to meet the new doctor, so what time was better than now?

And that was how Calypso found herself outside of sickbay, almost without realizing she was heading there. She patted herself down rapidly and pulled out a piece of licorice that she popped into her mouth as she sighed. She'd never met a Doctor Adiff, though in the past two decades she'd met far more doctors than she'd liked to, usually for repairs. She finally stepped forward and into the sensor field to the door and stepped in, planting a smile on her face and glancing around.

What greeted her was mostly stacks of crates and a smile crossed her face as she shifted the licorice to her cheek, "My gods... They actually sent out the supplies I asked for?" She spoke to the empty air as she moved forward and placed a hand on one of the crates, "Maybe all that time in the hospital paid off?"

A Bolian Doctor popped out of one of the supply rooms in sickbay, he had been putting away supplies he had brought with him. Noticing a woman wearing the rank of Commander with a piece of candy hanging out of her mouth he smiled "hello ma'am."

"Doctor Adiff, I presume?" Cally asked, stepping forward, hand out in greeting, "If I might ask, do you know if this is the full requisition that was sent in, or a partial delivery?" She shook her head slightly, "Sorry, Calypso Skyie, mistress of the good ship Chimera." She introduced herself.

Extending his right hand Doctor Adiff smiled "It's a pleasure to meet you Commander." The smiled faded from the Bolians face "I'm afraid not Commander" he checked the PADD in his left hand "looks like only about half" the man said with a disappointed tone. He also assumed he would meet his department head long before meeting the ships Commanding Officer.

Cally grimaced, "Well, some is better than none. Perhaps we'll get another shipment ahead of our departure, but I'm not gonna hold my breath." She sighed, "But it's good to finally have a doctor on board, we've been fortunate not to have any accidents so far, but you being on board really makes me feel better."

"I appreciate that ma'am" Adoll said with a smile on his face. "Once we get all the replicators up, I can replicate things as needed for emergencies." He gave a nod "we can make due with what we have ma'am" there was a slight pause "I'm assuming the Chief Medical Officer will arrive soon?"

The patently false smile on Calypso's face froze in place as she heard the question she feared was going to come from the Bolian from the moment she's walked in, "Thaaat would be hopeful, but as of right now we don't have a senior medical officer assigned to Chimera. I've been promised that we're in the pipeline to get one, but we don't even have a timeframe. So, Doc, for the moment you're it."

The Doctor of course had been trained well and had a few years experience in the sickbay and running it at night, but he was still nervous and you could hear it in his tone "ma'am are you" he paused "are you sure?" he wasn't normally one to question a superior officer, but wasn't sure he heard her right.

Cally nodded slowly, then really hit him with the hammer, “Not just that, but our counselor is a cadet on their observation cruise, so she’s supposed to have another counselor on board to oversee her, which we don’t have, so you may be called upon to be a supervisory medical officer for her as well.” She reached into her pocket and held out a bit of candy, “Sorry, doc.”

"No thanks" he declined the offer of candy "Psych isn't really my specialty, but I'll see if I can help Commander."

Cally tucked the candy back into her pocket, "Well, that's much appreciated doc, and you don't have to worry about having me checked out, because I can get you my entire record from the last year when I had some of your colleagues poking and prodding me again and again and again. At least this time they didn't have to regrow the leg again, just put it back together."

Adoll gave her a curious look "I would appreciate that, Commander" he made note on his PADD quickly to hold her to that statement as he wondered just exactly what she meant. "I'll be sure to keep you apprised of the situation here in sickbay ma'am" he reported happily, having to stock, organize and clean sickbay would give him something to do.

"Sounds great, Doc, so since I've bugged you enough, just one more question: Do you have any questions or concerns before I run away?" She was genuinely curious about anything.

Pulling a tricorder from his pocket, he smiled and moved some crates from a bio bed "might as well get your physical done Captain."

“I’ve actually gotta run down to engineering at the moment.” Cally eyed the tricorder warily, taking a step back, “There’s an interesting project going on where we’re merging two sets of dilithium crystals to keep us with power and I need to get an update on how it’s going.” Another step back.

Taking a few steps toward Cally "it will only take a moment Captain" the Bolian smiled warmly, still holding the tricorder up in the air and removing the scanning probe from the back.

“It really is a pressing issue.” Calypso watched the probe liky7e a cobra about to strike, taking the same number of steps backwards and finding herself with her back to the wall, door right next to her, “Great meeting you!” And she was out the door.

Doctor Adiff simply replaced the probe and the tricorder into his pocket and went back to unloading supplies and getting the medical bay as organized as possible. A smile on his face as he hummed a Bolian tune he enjoyed as a child.
