Mission:
The Boneyard Heist
Location: Security Offices
Timeline: during initial coming on board time period
Rene stepped into the security office. He nodded at the duty petty officer of the watch as he crossed the bullpen and approached the door of his office. It was too early in the morning and he'd not taken the time to order up a coffee from the replicator in his quarters. He vaguely heard the petty officer say something about security chief as the door to the private office opened. He blinked as he saw an officer sitting at the desk, a PADD in one hand and a cup of grapefruit juice in the other. "Can I help you?"
"Perhaps," Mark said, glancing at the somewhat long-haired young officer at the door. "By chance, you wouldn't be Ensign Rene Rouen, would you? I'm Lt. Mark Valleroy, the new security chief, officially as of about three hours ago."
Rene's expression relaxed as the man identified himself. He stepped forward, an arm outstretched as he nodded. "Oui, I am Ensign Rouen. Welcome aboard sir." He gestured to the replicator after shaking hands. "Would you mind if I got a tea?"
Mark nodded. "Go ahead. I met with Commander Skyie earlier. She indicated that you have the details about our departmental staff, or, apparently, the lack thereof."
Rene took out his PADD as he ordered up an English Breakfast tea from the replicator. Opening up a file, he made a slight gesture to chair along the wall. "If I may sir?"
"Of course," Mark said,
Rene began listing off that they had a full supply of photon torpedoes, most of which were still requiring functionality checks currently being performed by the Department Enlisted Advisor. Only the aft torpedo launcher was currently functioning, with work on the forward launcher going slowly, phaser batteries were expected to be fully operational by the end of the next morning watch thanks to the COBs assistance. The main armory was stocked, but secondary weapons lockers were empty." He finally got to the last item on his list. "Our current department personnel consist of two officers, you and I. We have one Chief Torpedoman's Mate, the DEA i spoke of. He is taking lead for the Torpedo Division as well. There are four Gunner's Mates, a First Class, Third Class and two Able crewmembers. Our Security Division has the most personal with nine Master-at-Arms ratings, most of whom are spread thin either getting the brig up or assisting in repairs with the other two Divisions."
"Ugh," Will said. "I knew we were bad off, but still... Well, I've met with Commander Skyie, and we're supposed to be getting more personnel after we arrive at the Starbase, though I'm not holding my breath as to that we're going to be getting a lot. I think we may be having our work cut out for us."
Rene nodded, a tired expression on his face. He smiled a bit as he realized what the Lieutenant's arrival meant for him. "One good thing comes to mind about your arrival."
"Whats that?"
Rene let out a chuckle of relief. "I'm now not the one who has to attend the daily staff meetings for the department or the senior staff working lunch meetings."
"Don't be so sure," Mark said with a grin. "For all you know, I may be one of those department heads that loves to delegate, especially to officers who have already shown an aptitude for handling certain jobs like boring meetings."
Rene feigned a pondering look. "Compromise, the Department Enlisted Advisor and I meet with the Division Officers and Leading Petty Officers, roll up a summary report for you and you attend the daily Senior Staff call meetings?"
"You don't have to if you don't want to," Mark said, "but it would be appreciated if you did."
Rene nodded. "We'll figure it out sir. Let's just hope we actually do get a department staff once we reach the Starbase."
"Yes, let's hope we get some people once we arrive at the Starbase."
"Roger that sir." Rene sat quietly. He had summarized the department's personnel and readiness status.
