The Time For Waiting Is Upon Us

"Captain's Log, stardate yadda yadda, computer fill that in when you have a chance." Cally was already frustrated about having to be in this hover-chair, wanting to get out of it despite the pain as she just... SAT in her ready room.
"It's hard to believe that we've only been in the Dexic system a few hours and are already out of it, but shit happens and this is truly getting us deep into it. Repairs on the shuttlebay are going decently, according to Lieutenant Maurnier, four of my crew are held hostage and eight are dead with numerous others wounded. This number doesn't include the Federation Ambassador O'Connor, nor the Dexician representatives or the terrorists."
She moved her chair towards the window to look out at what too many people thought were stars, but were merely particles getting energized with their passing. "Perhaps Towers was right and I shouldn't be in the center chair? Could anyone else have prevented what happened? Margie wouldn't have wanted me to question myself, but I have to."
She sighed and rested her head on her chest, "We'll drop out of warp in a few minutes and then just wait. It's up to Lieutenant Markova and the Marines right now to get Lieutenant Valleroy and his team out of terrorist hands. I've authorized deadly force and for them to do what it takes. Once we get back to the Starbase, I'm going to try to convince Commodore Everly to send someone with a bit more experience in the matter to clean things up. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait to get out of Federation space."
Another glance out the window and she turned her chair again, "I'll update this log after we find out if I'm going to be known as the Commanding Officer who lost an Ambassador and a bunch of officers and crew for absolutely nothing on her very first mission, or if we can salvage at least a good rescue out of a disaster.... End Captain's Log."
