A First Time To Meet The Skipper

Posted on Sun Aug 22nd, 2021 @ 2:36am by Captain Calypso Skyie & Ensign Danielle Michelson

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Danielle's Quarters
Timeline: Earlyish in the morning

Cally checked the time on the small PADD she then slipped into the pants she wore that had far more pockets than 'regulation' ones did. For that matter, her uniform jacket had pockets as well, but as every current or in her case former fighter pilots would tell you, pockets made everything easier. It was early still, sure, at 0700, but she was also kindof excited to meet her new pilot. The personnel file had arrived the day before, but she'd only gotten a short look at it before she'd had to go put out another fire, this one literal.

But that one look had told her much about this young Ensign, which she'd cursed Towers for deliberately sending an Ensign to take charge of a department, but that was now in the past and what happened there was far less important than what happened now. She pressed the attention chime and stood outside in an at ease position, uniform jacket only halfway sealed as she waited.

Danielle had just finished getting ready and pressing her single pip onto the collar of her uniform. She had no idea who could be at her door this early and gave a polite "come in" with one last check of the mirror before turning to face the entrance to her quarters.

That was, admittedly, more of a surprise to Cally than just someone showing up to the door, but she put a smile on as it slid open and stepped into the young woman’s quarters, “Good Morning, Ensign Michelson, I’m Commander Calypso Skyie, I just figured I’d come and welcome you aboard since I was a bit swamped when you arrived.”

"Yes" she paused not expecting to have the Commanding Officer come to her quarters. A sloppy salute was given and with a nervous smile "Thank you ma'am."

"Don't worry about saluting, we're not the Corps here, but at least we don't have to worry about it being a sniper check." Cally's eyes grinned, "And please, at ease, at ease, I'm not here for any real official reason, just wanted to come and say hello to a fellow pilot. I used to fly shuttles, fighters and then finally got to starships as well."

The information Commander Skyie just shared made Danielle very interested in her, well more then she already was. "It's a pleasure to meet you" she offered a smile "I have to admit I'm a little nervous, I've mostly flown shuttles" she admitted, letting her posture relax and gesturing for the Commander to take a seat.

"Thanks," Cally sat, "Don't be nervous, flying a ship the size of Chimera is easier than it looks. Yeah, you have to worry more about what we've got on the outside, but you're not going to be trying to fit her through the head of a needle either. Did you run any simulations while you were on your way here?"

"Of course" she sat up and smiled "I am constantly running simulators" the Ensign tried to assure the Commanding Officer. "I know the computer handles the brunt of the work on a ship like the Chimera, but the majority of my experience has been shuttle pilot to a Klingon Ambassador" the soft smile on her face faded as she looked away "I'll do my best to perform well on the bridge."

"I've got no doubt on that!" Calypso chuckled slightly, "And by being my Chief Flight Control Officer, you're also by default the primary pilot for shuttles and other transports. You're going to need to practice with a Delta Flyer, as well as the Waverider and Aerowing type craft, along with the Type Eleven and Tens." She waved that away, "But plenty of time to do that, we're not in any rush at all. But a Klingon Ambassador? That had to be a lot of um... Fun?"

Ensign Michelson had no doubt she could fly any of the small craft, probably not one of the fighters that were on the ship. "Yes ma'am and a handsy Klingon Ambassador" Danielle raised her brows, wearing a look of disgusts on her face.

Cally grimaced at the thought of a Klingon putting their hands all over her, definitely not something she'd enjoy, "Well, if any sort of ambassador or the like get handsy with you, feel free to take their hand off. Or tell me and I might give them a lesson in flying through space, sans spacesuit." Yup, she already liked this Ensign, but that wouldn't stay that way for long, not if this would be her chief pilot, "Chimera will definitely be a safe place for you in that, you have my word."

"Thank you ma'am" Danielle said giving a nod and a smile. "I'll do my best to impress you" Ensign Michelson still wore the smile on her face and leaned in toward her CO. She really wanted to impress this woman, she would try very hard to have no issues and wondered if there was a simulation for the Luna Class.

"Call me Cally." Calypso said firmly, "If you must use my call sign at any point, it's Calamity as you'll see on that fighter in the hanger, good story behind that one." She shook her head slightly, "Besides, any and all of my Chiefs will be seeing a lot of me, I've got no doubt, and I want to be as informal as we can. I don't want to stress anyone out and besides, we pilots gotta stick together against the rest of them, or they'll take us for granted!"

Danielle had experienced being taken for granted before "Well I'm glad you've got my back Cally" she smiled at the ships Commanding Officer.

“Oh, hell, we’ve got an Admiral doing his best to screw us over, Danielle, so we might just end up back on the beach without a career to keep going.” Cally grinned, “I was a Marine before I turned into a helmsman, but the Federation Marines take the tradition from the ancient United States Marines. On Earth, they had three world-wide wars, but during the first one, the first US Marine unit had just arrived at the front battle line when experienced soldiers warned them to retreat from the oncoming enemy. I can’t remember the Lieutenant’s name off the top of my head, but he said ‘Retreat? Hell, we just got here!’ Or something like that. I’m not gonna retreat, how about you?” The Commander reached out a hand.

"No ma'am" Danielle said excited taking the offered hand.

“Then how about we go to the bridge so you can meet your new baby? Chimera might not look like much just yet, but your new seat awaits you.” Cally smiled brightly.

"I'd like that" Danielle said with a smile, giving her Commanding Officer a nod.
