Rise And Shine

Posted on Sun Aug 22nd, 2021 @ 11:14pm by Captain Calypso Skyie & Lieutenant Commander Tyler Driskill

Mission: The Boneyard Heist
Location: Tyler's Quarters

She stood there just watching in the dimness as his chest rose and fell, the slightest scent of wet hair beginning to make it's way throughout the bedroom of Commander Tyler Driskell. But Calypso didn't particularly care, after all, she was here for him. "Computer, lights eighty percent." She said quietly, then as the lights came on spoke loudly, "Rise and shine, Tyler! It's five thirty and the whole day's ahead of us!"

"Damn it" the First Officer swore out loud. He had been up until four working on some of the engineering issues he had been tasked with working on.

"We'll sleep when we're dead!" She grinned, tossing a shirt at him. She had on a comfortable pair of shorts to go with a tank top and sneakers, "Or when we're just travelling between destinations, or during senior staff meetings, you know, the normal times!"

Tyler sat in his bed, shaking his head with a smile on his face. "So what's so important?" he asked slipping on the shirt she tossed at him. Tyler wrapped the sheet around the lower half o his body and got up to get a pair of shorts and his sneakers.

"Exercise." Calypso bounced up and down on her toes, "I'm no great shakes when it comes to hand to hand combat, you're an instructor in the same, so we're going to head down to the gym, put on some pads and you're going to teach me a thing or two to de-stress a bit." She made an exaggerated effort to catch a glimpse, but more out of just simple fun than any real effort to be a voyeur.

Tyler turned his back and dropped the sheet, he quickly pulled on his shorts looking back at her with a wink. "Exercise is good" he said quickly putting his shoes on "You gotta promise not to hurt me" he joked.

Cally laughed out loud, "Good one, we'll see if I go easy on you in flight training at some point in the future." She winked as they left the room.

It was only a couple minutes of good-natured banter before they reached the gym and Cally immediately began to don a padded helmet and gloves, because she didn't know how hard he'd hit, but combat training wasn't always gentle. "I've done a bit of kickboxing in the past, but I really don't remember much of it, just enough to not die in the first minute of battle, I think."

Tyler put on the appropriate equipment and gave her a smile. he thought that Cally wasn't telling him the whole truth about her hand to hand combat skills. "Well let's see what you've got Calypso" he said with a smile and almost flirtatious as they were the only ones in the gym.

She set herself into a combat crouch, hands up and open as she bounced on the balls of her feet before closing her hands and nodding. "I'm ready when you are."

He gave a nod, he wasn't going to try and hurt her by any means. "Well come at me" he had a frown on his face, holding up his hands ready to block.

Cally grimaced as she was tentative with her first attack, leaving her punch short, then kicked out with a lower-leg strike that was blocked with ease. She backed off for a moment and took a breathe before coming back in, "I've got an idea on how to get what we need for supplies."

"What's that?" Tyler asked swinging an attack.

She blocked it with both hands, then countered with a fist towards the ribs that was blocked again and she shook her head as she took a step back again to decide, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she did so again, "There's an old Miranda-class ship on the edge of the Boneyard, the Columbus, that's never going to be reactivated. If we can send someone over there covertly, set up a couple false leaks.." She paused for a moment to throw a leg sweep that she stopped and brought up into a knee kick that was stopped by Tyler, "We can tell the station that we're investigating it. We go in, strip what the Columbus has, and to cover it up, set off their antimatter storage while 'fleeing' back to the base, so we catch the debris on our shields." She threw a half-hearted punch, then stepped back in anticipation of a counterattack.

Tyler did give a counter attack and missed his target on purpose. "Our shields shouldn't have any problem holding off the debris" he paused for a moment letting his mind race on just exactly how they would pull this off.

Calypso just stopped, hands dropping to her side and worry on her face as she processed his response, "You... Were just going to let me blow up a ship? To get some supplies?" She asked quietly, before her legs collapsed under her.

"I never said that" he dropped to his knees beside her "what's wrong?" he asked a true note of concern in his voice.

She made herself look into his eyes, hoping and praying to any of her gods that would listen, "You didn't shoot the idea down instantly, Tyler, that's what's wrong... I know it was a dirty trick of me to even suggest that, but I needed to know what you would do if I suggested something like that." She shook her head, eyes never leaving his, "You agreed that our shields would hold, not 'what the hell?' or 'Isn't there another way' or anything... Why?" It was pleading in her voice, hoping for a good reason.

"You said the ship would never be used again" he paused, it looked like his stay aboard this ship may be short lived. "I figured if we could get a Luna Class running we could do some good."

She nodded, "And if I'd suggested we talk to Fleet about finally listing her for disposal and transferring the supplies to us, that's a different story." Cally shook her head again, "Plotting to blow the ship without permission is a crazy-ass stunt, stupid to be honest. It could get people killed easily. I need you to slap me if I ever suggest something like that, instantly, no warning. If I'm on the border of doing it that moment, if you need to shoot me, you do it." She quirked a half-smile, "On stun, if you please."

Tyler was feeling quite ashamed that he disappointed Cally. "You have my word" he said making a funny face and shaking his head.

"I really do need you to disagree with me here and there, even if you don't believe in what you're saying. Devil's Advocate, question my idea in a way that gives me another option, your best second-type option or a better one than I've got going. I'm not a dictator, and yes, while my final say goes, I'm not always right and I know it. I'm not omniscient." She smiled weakly.

"I will" Tyler had already promised Cally he would do exactly what she was asking him.

Calypso sighed deeply and nodded, "But in other news, I DO have an idea. It's relatively similar, it's just... Different. Instead of one ship, we get what we need from multiple ships in the Boneyard. A little from here, a little from there, so that we don't leave another ship in the state we've found ourselves." She waved around them, "I need to get the senior staff together once we get them on board, because this could affect everyone and if we aren't a team in this, it will turn out badly. We'll just have to plot our flight path properly on the way out."

"I agree" Tyler said about it taking the whole team. "I have no doubt our flight path will be spot on" he looked over at her and gave a wink.

She reached out and gave a punch on his chest that had only a portion of the force needed to push him over, “And we’ll drop a few torpedoes into the Boneyard station so they’ll be kept too busy to notice what we’re up to.”

What started as a training session turned into Tyler feeling like he'd let Cally down. "Is that the plan" he asked looking at her and rubbing his chest where she hit him like it hurt.

“No…” Cally admitted with a sigh, “Look, Tyler, one of the problems you and I have is that we barely know each other, despite umm… Certain things.” A slight smile crossed her lips, “We were thrown together as a team by someone hoping we’d fail, he’ll, look at what we’ve got as crew already and the files of those on their way! Reprobates, lazy people and brand shiny new graduates and cadets from the Academy and enlisted training. Where does it show that we stand a chance?”

She let that question hand for a pair of heartbeats, “Of everyone on board so far, we are the pros. I need to think like you sometimes, but even more importantly, you HAVE to be able to think like me and predict what I may or may not do in a given situation. Is it fair? Hell no, it isn’t. But what it means is that I’m going to be rough on you, I’m going to test you randomly so I can see what you will do in any situation. What Captain Taylor said to me on my very first day as her XO is that the Captain is supposed to be a teacher OF teachers, they’re supposed to know everything About everything and everyone and to be able to fool the outside eye by bringing in the true experts while giving the impression that they already know to their questioner.”

Another moment of thought, “I miss her. I never got to tell her goodbye. But, she said, most importantly, a Captain is supposed to be a mentor to her XO. Because when the shit hits the fan, the worst feeling a Captain can have is being forced to leave their crew in the hands of someone who she doesn’t know intimately, who she doesn’t know she can trust the judgement of.” Cally brought her hands out in front of her to stop the likely objection with a slight smile again, “That does not mean I don’t trust you, gods know that. I just don’t know you as close as I need to do that if I die, I know for an absolute fact that my ship and crew are in good hands so I can rest peacefully.”

The eye contact the pair had remained "I can assure you I will always do what I think is best for the people on this ship" he looked away for a second at the thought of loosing any life he was responsible for. He wasn't really sure what else to say at the moment, other then that he would do what he always thought was best.

She nodded, "What do you have on your schedule today?" Cally asked quietly, making a decision.

"Inventory of cargo bay one" he shook his head "then more work with Davenport's team" Tyler wasn't a fan and Cally already knew that.

"Not anymore." Cally smiled slightly, "I was an idiot and put this off for too long as it is. I'm going to let Jenna know that you won't be there." She leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the forehead, "I want you to go get some more sleep, then when you wake up, dress in something comfortable and find me. If I expect you to know what I'm going to do, you're going to need to know as much about me as you can and best get it from the horse's mouth."

"I can handle it" he had to be strong for her and everyone on the ship.

"Go get some sleep." It was a suggestion couched as an order, "I'll be waiting when get up. Sorry I woke you."

"Yes ma'am" Tyler said reluctantly.
