Mission: The Boneyard Heist

The waves crashed onto the shore of Kalapaki Beach. The Beach was one of the most beautiful on Earth and Tyler and the lady he had been seeing for the last few months had just finished night two of a seven night vacation.

The following morning Tyler let his lady friend sleep and went for a three mile beach run. He enjoyed keeping in shape and there wasn't a better view to do it in. He was really enjoying his time with Sara and the two had really gotten romantic here in Hawaii.

That night Tyler and Sara enjoyed a luau and lot's of drinks. As they walked along Kalapaki Beach holding hands, the stars shinning down on the couple. Tyler stopped on the beach and took Sara in his arms, kissing her passionately "Let's just never leave" he suggested looking up at the stars and then back down at Sara.

Sara laughed and kissed him again. She had no clue Tyler was being serious. The two of them enjoyed the rest of their night sipping champagne on their balcony and watching the ocean and stars.

It was the pounding at the door at six the following morning that was the most unpleasant thing about the trip. A young man wearing the rank of Ensign gave a quick salute and asked "Former Commander Tyler Driskill?"

"What?" Tyler asked with a frown on his face, one hand held up to try and bock out the sunlight and the other holding the bed sheet around his waste so he wasn't naked.

"I'm looking for Tyler Driskill" the young man let out a huff and pulled a PADD out of his bag. "Are you Mister Driskill?" he asked getting inpatient.

"I'm Driskill" Tyler replied, shaking his head slightly "but what's this about?"

"Look's like you've got orders" the Ensign handed him the PADD and made a quick exit.

Tyler looked down at the PADD, standing there wearing nothing but a sheet. "Orders" he said shaking his head before going back inside, slamming the door behind him and sitting down on the sofa. Sure enough they were orders for him to report to the USS Chimera where he would serve as ships First Officer at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Tyler told Sara the bad news over breakfast and the two of them had one last romantic night together. They had both decided it would be best to just call things off for now. Sara would finish up the time that was reserved at Kalapaki Beach and Tyler would catch a shuttle first thing in the morning to make haste to the Chimera, of course there would be some travel time for him. Which just meant time to think and let everything process. The last time he was spacefaring he was up for a command position, this time he would act as Executive Officer. A role at least he was comfortable with and knew he would serve his superior well.

Tyler got little to no sleep the night before, had coffee and breakfast one last time with Sara and reported to the proper area for departure. Like normal he had no information about his superior officer and only knew the ship he would serve on was an upgraded Luna class.

The last seventy two hours had been exhausting for Tyler, who had finally added the rank pip to the uniform he replicated. One of the other passengers was a talker, she informed them all she talked when she was nervous. The Ensign must have been nervous for the last six hours straight. At one point Tyler wondered if she was taking breaths in between words. He had to pull rank but he got the young woman to go get some sleep.

"Another twenty four hours" he said before taking a sip of his coffee. Of course he wasn't talking to anyone as he was alone in the cockpit. The other three occupants were asleep and Tyler was enjoying the quite time. The Type Nine shuttle they were in was being pushed to it's limits to get Tyler to the Chimera before launch, there were often many things that had to be completed before a ship could relaunch.

Several uneventful hours had passed, Tyler kept an eye on the sensors and the coffee in his mug. The Lieutenant Commander didn't expect to have any encounters on their trip as they were running a well traveled route deep inside Federation territory.

"Morning" came a voice from behind Tyler. "Need fresh coffee sir?" Ensign Harrison asked taking the open seat in the cockpit and taking a sip of her coffee.

"That would actually be great" Tyler said as he yawned and stretched before holding out his mug to get a refill on coffee.

"Anything cool happen while we were asleep, sir?" the young Ensing asked taking another huge sip from her mug.

Tyler knew she was just excited, so he tried his best to be polite "nothing" was his response. "But I'm glad you are here to help me keep an eye on things" Tyler tapped some commands in and took a few sips from his coffee. "Thanks for the fresh coffee" he held up his mug and gave a crooked smile.
